Just for interest... :D
By reading this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59969) thread I got the Idea for this poll...
Ive voted 3times...
1.) Winamp
Because its the most flexible audio player...
With the right plugins it accepts near like all input, also very exotic ones !
It is able to use all this great DSP effect plugins, that make my 500$ speakers sound like 1000$ ones ! ;) And I can also use lot of different output-modes like DS, 5.1, A3D etc. !
Simply great !!! :D
2.) ZoomPlayer
Because of its mass of options, and it ability's for TV-output...
ZoomPlayer has everything you need ! + all the stuff you not need ! :D
And don't forget its cool skin... Never seen such a stylish one !
3.) MPlayer2
I know it has near like no options, I know theres nothing advanced here !
But this is exactly what I need for testing/preview purpose !!!
NO extras ! NO advanced options ! NO x100 options ! But also NO bugs !!! :D

Yeah, sorry that some players are missing !
But 10 options are maximum for a poll... :(
(Or could this option be changed by a mod ???)

Havent try'd CrystalPlayer and Sasami till now...
But as I see, no one uses Quicktime, RealOne and DivX -Player !
So they could maybe changed to the here requested... (by a MOD ;)) !?!

OK ! I say it again... 10 options are maximum for a poll !!!
When you think this poll sucks, because not all players you like are included... Post a second "whats your favorite media player" poll, and include all players Ive missed... ;)
Sorry, I don't wanted to be snippy, but Its not easy to make EVERYBODY happy !
So, Instead of posting what players are missing, a bit more discussing about the poll results, would be cool... ! ;)
MPC is ahead with 48% !!! I don't use it much, but indeed a f#*king great player !!! :D
Still no votes for QT, RealOne and DivX -Player... (Who wonders !!! :D)

And for audio files, good old winamp2 of course.

If MPC had some "skin" support,it would be even better!
Did everybody looked to installer/EXE size of these players??
I think here again vote goes to MPC.(~900KB)

Why skin support? If you want glossy colours and flashing lights there are lots of players with good skin support.
Simple clean interface is always the best.
I use Foobar2000 for music and Core Media Player, Media Player Classic and sometimes ViPlay for movies.

MPC has so many cool features, it's by far and away my favorite! Some advanced features that I really like are:
1. Prioritze/block the DSFs you do/don't want to use.
2. Customized keystroke commands--map them to your HTPC remote control!
3. Audio skew adjustment. (Map the +/- command to your remote (see above) and adjust skew "on the fly" while you watch!
4. Plays pretty much everything!
:( mpeg2 playback of my ReplayTV files seems to have broken (both internal and external DSF) with the 6.5.6.5 realease. 6.4.6.4 works!
5. Many others mentioned in this thread. Other players have some of the features I want, but MPC pretty much has most of them (I haven't figured out how to do custom aspect ratio adjustments yet.)

Tried Winamp5.0 alpha, just like good 2.9x and not like Winamp3.I think Winamp 5.0 is going to support freeform skins like Winamp3,but not crappy and slow as it.U can even use Winamp2.9x plugins to this.Even being in alpha stage,Winamp5.0 is my new favourite audio player.

I donot mean flashing bulbs, lights, resource intensive skins.........,only simple skins like winamp 2.9x's...to look different from the legendary Windows Media Player 6.4.

For video: Mainly BSPlayer. The bsi ini-files are just great. And sometimes MPC, mainly when testing new encodings or filter setups. ZP is a great player, too, but bloated with too many options I don't need.
For audio: foobar2000. The only player taking at most 1% CPU on my P2-400. I never liked Winamp. Back in 2.x days Sonique was a much more stylish player. And now that I've changed my mind about skinning (who needs skins for programs working mainly invisible in the background or playing a movie in fullscreen mode?) foobar2000 beats them all. Though I'm sorry for the dying Sonique...

For audio: Winamp 2.95. Mainly because it's small and has the few functions I want from an audio player, and it docks nicely to the top of my screen in windowshade mode :)
For video (and obscure audio): Media Player Classic is the easily the best media player. It plays everything and it's not too bloated... what more could I want?

There is no Winamp 4.0 'cos Winamp 5 == Winamp 2 + Winamp 3. As far as I know, they're trying to get all good things from Winamp 2 and Winamp 3 and add these to Winamp 5.
Anyway, I use foobar2000 for audio so I don't really care about Winamp :D. And MPC for video...

It's Media Player Classic for me too!
I just love the way it has it's very own 'built in' Mpeg2 decoder and is so flexible with other codecs.
I wonder if it would be possible for Gabest to add a 'built in' DolbyDigital/DTS decoder - which could convert an 6Ch digital audio stream to an 6Ch analogue audio stream?
I have not come across this on the forum but would it be also possible to put MPC onto a VCD (dat), so it can be used as an 'auto run'. Instead of having to force your PC's media player to play such disc's?
It's the best and getting better all the time!
Thanks Gabest.. Cheers

One of the biggest reasons why people like foobar2000 so much is that simple interface. Like i already said, i don't like glossy colours or flashing lights. They just eat memory and system resources, i keep my player always in the system tray... So skins are useless. Still average users like Winamp so much because of those skins.
By the way you can get skins for foobar and you can even code your own interface for it if you want. If you want skins check out this site: http://www.barciaonline.com/aural/foobarlooks/foobarlooks.htm
Here's some really nice foobar strings:
http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/fb2k/index.php
If you like Winamp2 try new "leaked" Winamp 5 beta 1.
I don't know what version you tested but check our Case's special installer. http://www.saunalahti.fi/~cse/html/foobar.html
Spend more time and see what you can do with foobar.
It's ofcourse matter of taste but Foobar2000 beats easily Winamp. Example look how powerfull masstagger is.
Foobar is not open source but bugs are fixed very fast. Foobar developer actually listens what options users want and add them. It's somenthing Winamp people don't do. You can request plugins and unless you are asking somenthing very stupid it takes usually only few days and it's done.

Thanks for all this info...
Like i already said, i don't like glossy colours or flashing lights. They just eat memory and system resources, i keep my player always in the system tray...
Ok, for "working" apps I like it also the simple way... ;)
But for mediaplayers n' those stuff, I like it to have skins !
Also because it's fun to make my own ones... :D
And for the thing with the resources...
The only stuff I do while hearing music is reading/writing, or I simply do nothing else ! :p
So theres no real need to save resources for me... ;)
Would also not making sense in my case, because my DSP stuff needs already 3x more resources than the bare player/playback... :D
PS:
Quicktime is still not changed to foobar2000 !?! :(
Should I post this request to a MOD, or should I keep waiting ???

Hi! Well I see lots of players here and lots of people willing to try something new or stick to the old. I've just released a turning point version in my player - 0.20 ;). It is called AIW Player. I've written it in Delphi and I still have waaay more to go, but like I said this is a turning point and most of the features should work fine. In short it's features are: avi/mpeg player, tv-card and broadcasting software all in one. It has full support for multi monitor systems, desktop playback (as a wallpaper), system wide hotkeys (usefull for remote controllers), fast seek forward / backward, when changing from video to tv-card view the position of the avi is stored so that after you're done watching tv you can resume your avi file, and many other features. Broadcasting mode (similar to Windows Media Encoder) lets you share your tv-tuner on the internet or your LAN. Well, I hope you find the time to look into this little player (only 280 kb) and help me improuve it. This is the link - http://www.fightersoft.3x.ro/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=1

In order to extract to MP3, you must purchase Winamp Pro.
Would you like information on purchasing Winamp Pro ?

Yeah ! But not until they free the MP3 encoding lock, and add vorbis n' WMA also... I loved Winamp because It can do everything what others can do, but for free !!! :D So, they should not change this, principle thought ! Or do they think they'll could make much money this way ??? Don't think much PPL will purchase Winamp Pro just for CD->MP3 conversation ! There are already enough tools out there, that can do the same (and more "ogg & WMA") for free !!! ;) Having an improved Winamp is cool, but having a improved Winamp with locked options is not very nice... So until they change this, Ill stay with... -> "Winamp2 rules !!!" :D Just for the principle of course ! ;)

Was there a FREE mp3/wma/Ogg encoder in Winamp2.9x?.The only thing was a WAV decoder/File writer by default.
The all in one encoder I know is the dBpoweramp,Can you suggest any other?
Thanks
Anyway I'm not going to purchase Winamp Pro.But freeware will be used.

-Tuning There was a free .ogg writer that came with 2.95, and you could download the MP3 encoder (enc_lame.zip) separately. You might be interested that there you can still get the ogg encoder (enc_vorbis.zip) and encode to it using 5b1, although only at ridiculously slow speeds.
THE LAME CODEC IS FREE ONLY WHEN YOU *DON'T COMPILE IT*. If you want to use a compiled version you have to get an MP3 license from Thomson, who are the MP3 licensers assigned by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft who are the license owners. That's why 2.95 was never released, because it's illegal. It's also why AOL are charging for MP3 encoding in Winamp5, because they have to stay legal and it's only possible to get per-client licenses for MP3 :(
On the other hand, putting in slow ripping and leaving out vorbis encoding seems like a way to line their pockets to me. Most advanced users like the people on this board probably already have separate rippers, so it hardly matters really.

Thanks for the info quietbritishjim,
I think Winamp people need to restrict the use of AAC encoder in Winamp 5.0,which is also a MPEG standard and need licensing.
And AAC is going to be the real successor of Mp3.
(Prophecy by Tuning!:D)
BTW,sorry for my earlier post as there was a free WMA encoder too.And a secret :I already got Winamp 2.95 ;).
