adding a new set of subtitle to a dvd

hi there, its my first time here so bear with me.

ok, i want to add a portuguese subtitle to a dvd (not divx or svcd), i know how to do it with divx to dvd but i think its a waste of time and quality to encode it to divx and reencod it to dvd again with the subs, ive sean a guide somewhere but i can't remember now, so if u could help i would be realy pleased.

You need to completely reauthor your movie (=taking it apart and putting it back together). When putting it back together you can add (or replace an existing) subpicture stream.

If you add subtitles make sure to have the option copy audio and subpicture table checked.

You probably better start reading some guides on reauthoring if you don't know how to do it.
