Fix for 'The video decoder doesn't produce closed caption data'

Hey guys:

Recently, I reinstalled my operating system and, upon running IfoEdit, I discovered the DVD Play button no longer played the DVD files. When I pressed the DVD Play button, I recieved an error window stating "The video decoder doesn't produce closed caption data". It would play the audio track, but the video would come in all distorted.

I searched everywhere on the net and couldn't find a resolution.

I then ran a process monitor program which would allow me to see all of the files used by a running application on my machine.

Upon checking what files where being used by IfoEdit - I discovered it was using Nero's video decoder NeVideo.ax. I searched for this file and renamed it to OldNeVideo.ax and reran IfoEdit. BINGO! My DVD Play button now works, and IfoEdit properly displays video. IfoEdit is now using a video decoder called DVDVideo.ax.

I quickly reran Nero and it seems to be working properly despite having its video decoder renamed. I haven’t extensively tested Nero since renaming though so beware if you see weird behavior.

This not being able to view the video started when I upgraded to the latest version of Nero (version 6 beta, I believe).

Putting a dvd in your dvd-rom solves the problem too ;)

? That resolves the 'A valid DVD volume could not be detected.' error. The error I originally spoke of is different.

I can assure you this also works for the other error message (at least in my case).

You'll still get the error, but ifoedit won't crash.
