VIdeo Encoding VCD General Software Question

As times changes so do the methods used to encode VCDs. For encoding AVI to MPEG files and ultimately to VCDs, I use TMPGENC. Is this still what most people use (IE Fastest, overall best program)? It's been a while since I have do this and I am starting to get back into it. I was just wondering if there are better programs out there now?

when i used tmpgenc it estimated 98 hrs to convert from avi to mpeg, too long in my book, i left it for 19 hrs but the estimation didnt alter.

i now use Aare converter v3.0, only takes 3 hrs to convert avi to mpeg.


Also, whilst using tmpgenc, the avi file was 700 meg, 19 hours later the new, well, 30 % converted mpeg was a whopping 2 gig in size, i mean WTF !!!!!!!! if i had carried on the converstion the new mpeg would of been like 4 gig LOL, no way man !
