I have ripped a vob file from a dvd with DVD Decrypter. When I tried to load the ifo file from DVD2SVCD under the conversion tab, it loads OK. But I get a "Unable to locate ifo file. Switching to file mode" message when I tried to start the process and convert. Does anyone know why I am getting this message?

Yes. Don't use external rippers. DVD2SVCD has integrated ripping routines. If you insist on using external ones it can be done by deactivating ripping in the DVD2SVCD tab.
By the sounds of it what you have done is ripped the DVD externally, launched DVD2SVCD and pressed the disc icon in the conversion tab. What it does is try to find an IFO file in your DVD-ROM drive. Clearly, since there is no DVD in the drive it can't locate one. Switching to file mode simply means that, since it couldn't find an IFO file in the DVD drive, it wants you to browse for the file on your hard disc.
So either stick the DVD disc in, re-rip with internal routines and convert, or deactivate ripping, browse for the IFO on your hard disc, ie whatever the target folder for DVD Decryptor was set to, when prompted and hit go. It should work.
Unless you only ripped the vob with DVD decryptor and not the ifo in which case you'll have to re-rip.

Your description and assessment is correct up till the third paragraph. I had ripped a few movies using DVD Decryptor and saved them in a folder. They all have IFO and VOB file intact. When I browse under the 'conversion' tab and point to one of the IFO file, it loads fine and lists all the available sound track and movie length correctly. But as soon as I hit the 'disk' icon to start the process (tried with either 'ripping' on or off), that's when it gave me the message, 'Unable to locate IFO file. Switching to file mode.'
This is very puzzling because it obviously sees the IFO file and loaded it. Unfortunately, I no longer have the DVDs to tried ripping it internally.
I then tried a couple other ripper/converter, i.e. '#1 DVD Ripper','DVDCopyGold', 'DVDXCopy Xpress' and they all loaded fine and were able to process it. However, they automate the process in such a way that they don't give you much leeway way to customize it.
Thanks,

OK, you said you hit the disk icon. That is not used if you load a ifo file. The disk icon is only if you have a disk in your hardware or virtual drive. So, you would load the ifo and then go directly to the convert button.

What if the VOB files are all you have? A friend had a damaged DVD and I was able to extract only the VOB files but not the main IFO file.

It is possible to create your own with IfoEdit (freeware, Try doom9.org downloads, if not do a google).
Not 100% straightforward but doesn't look rocket science.

I have a vague memory of being able to use an IFO from a similar source, but of course the chapters would be all wrong. It may work and may not, but may be worth trying.

Hi Nick and DDogg,
I found IfoEdit and it appeared to work well, just now when TMPGenc hits 30% I get an out of memory error and when I check to see how much memory is bring used, TMPGenc is using just under 100Meg and looking at the task manager, total memory usage is just over 1 Gig!
DDogg, I tried what you suggested originally but was unable to find something close...
