AVI=>DVD= Crappy Quality

Everytime I convert a AVI to DVD I get crappy quality. Is this normal?

Very much depends on your input. Maybe tell us something about your input and how you process it?
Quality won't be better than your input. Crap in -> crap out. A 400 meg rip of a 120 min. movie won't ever turn into a gorgeous dvd.

2 hour movie thats a 700meg AVI.

Thats crap alright. U might reencode it to half hoprizontal resolution to obtain a slightly better image quality but don't expect too much.

So what avg size AVI/DIVX should produce DVD quality

I have seen 2cd avis transformed to blocky dvd also. So I guess 3 cd is a minimum if u want some sort of quality.
