View Full Version : Nero 6.0.0.19 UDF/ISO No longer works?

I just updated Nero 6 to the latest release and have had two unreadable burns in a row using the old faithfull UDF/ISO mode. A message now flashes up advising use of the DVD-Video mode in order to ensure DVD standard compliance which I have ignored since the UDF/ISO mode is normally so reliabe for achieving compatability with my set-tops.
I have now tried one burn onto a +RW using the DVD-Video setting and it works OK. So it looks like Ahead have made some changes to the UDF/ISO mode making it less compatible, with the DVD-Video mode the preffered option. I know that the UDF/ISO setting worked better because of the ability to set the UDF mode to 1.02, whereas DVD-Video used a default 1.05 which was less compatible. Things have changed it seems.
Can other please provide comment or confirmation of these findings?

You wouldn't happen to be using AMD processor now would you. I noticed that lots of people having problems with the plextor 8X writer. The ones with the problems have amd computers. I do and I figured out how to make a compliant dvd now. Use alcohol 120 to burn the image. Works 100%. One week of me burning 30 coasters of the + media and finally got it too work. Plextor owes me on this one.

It is Nero which has always been b0rked, and is still b0rked. Version 6.0.0.11 and 19 can work, while 6.0.0.15 does not. The same with 5.5.10.45: while 45 works, 50 and 54 are b0rked, especially with the plextor 8x writer...
@DVD Maniac: If you observations are accurate, then 6.0.0.19 is broken just as the others.

i have strange troubles with nero too- with 6.00.19 and the previous version- it burns video-dvd´s, but fails the verify (8 of 11 files dont match)- the discs play properly with powerdvd.
yesterday nero failed the verify with my liteon cd-r burner too. i burned the same video-dvd with copy2dvd and a compare of the files on the hd gave 100% match. copy2dvd gave me a bad feeling, at the beginning of the burn proces it sounded like if the laser-pickup is banged to something 2 times....

WinOnCd 6.0 is working reliably for me - maybe try that.
The difference is you nned to allocate the PRIORITY for the IFOs and BUPs yourself. (Nero does that for you in DVD Mode)

ixpi: Do you by chance have a Via KT133A with 686B southbridge and a SBLive?

yes, kt133a with sb128-pci, dont know bout the bridge. do you think i should install the via4-in-one drivers that change the memory access mode to resolve the hardware bug?
what does priority of vobs mean? you mean nero changes the video_ts files to make them standard-conform? would be an answer, but as i created them with scenarist, i cant see why it would need to do so much changes.

The IFOs are placed at the beginning of the DVD - the Backups (BUPs) are placed at the end for security against scratches.

IXP- I'm having the same problem with it doing the same thing at the end of the burn. Using NEro 6.0.0.1.9 . I run a Kt266a pro2 with a SB live and its starting to annoy me. Anyone have a remedy for this?

This can help:
- try different versions of chipset drivers
- set the secondary IDE channel to MW-DMA instead of U-DMA
- remove the SB Live
- replace the mainboard
In some cases, only point 4 helped, but usually, one of the other 3 works.

Wow!
All this talk of chipsets to fix a Progie bug!
maa - you mention setting the Priority for the IFO's and .BUP's but I do not see how to do this in UDF/ISO mode?
I have now done 10 discs or so using DVD-Video mode and I am getting very consistent, working results (except I had one that failed to verify - but it played fine on my set-top). What's really interesting is that when I used to use UDF/ISO mode (when it used to work!) my Philips set top took ages to recognise the disc as a DVD+R and start playing (with lots of read-head scanning back and forth). With DVD-Video mode discs it fires up much more quickly - why so?
So can it be that DVD-Video mode is now a better choice that UDF/ISO?

If the verification fails, then it is no software bug.
So can it be that DVD-Video mode is now a better choice that UDF/ISO?DVD-Video is a more restrictive version of UDF/ISO, for example the order in which the files occur on the disc is not even variable.
So this COULD be.

@DVD Maniac
I meant WinOnCd which has this option - Nero does it automatically which may or may not be good - either way, both programs work on my setup.

nero 6.0.0.19 has a bug
it writes the video files to the disk in reverse order
so that some standalone videos can't read em.
they say it will be sorted in v6.0.0.20
(but saying that, i use nero recode to
shrink and burn and that works well so it looks
like its only burning rom thats buggy)

Thanks for the update - I assume you got this from Ahead after reporting the problems?
How is it possible for a piece of major burning software like this to be released with such a ridiculous bug? What are we to expect next - files burnt in random order? file names all changed to "THIS RELEAESE IS PROBABLY BUGGIE AS WELL.vob"? Green ones?
I am totally fed up with Nero and Ahead and am switching to Instant Vob or equivilant (and demanding a refund from Ahead) as a protest to this outstanding incompetance - I urge others on the forum to do likewise and perhaps these cowboys will get their act together.
