As per this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52503) and this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=44150) , i've decided to revamp my dvd backup related stuff. The first thread describes a problem with an avisynth installer overwriting vfapi settings(avisynth is broken for my system) and the second describes a problem with non-donald graft versions of dvd2avi dropping frames. My plan is to only re-install the things that need it and move some dvd stuff to C:\tmpgenc for shorter pathnames. Here is a list of programs I have installed now that might need re-installing or updating: daemon3.3,nero6(package1only-no updates yet),virtualdubmpeg2,virtualdubmod1.5.4.1build2066,ffvfw(5-2),smartripper2.40(i don't want dvd2vcd to uninstall aspi!),system aspi4.60,and nero aspi2.0.1.59, tmpgenc ver.2.512.52.161(now its in C:\program files\tmpgenc),and dvd2svcdver1.2.1build1(its inside my C:\program files\tmgenc\dvd2svcd folder). Here's what I want to do, in this order. Uninstall:dvd2svcd, uninstall both virtual dubs, and uninstall ffvfw. Then update daemon to 3.41,install ffvfw(8-16 or maybe 9-27??), install nero updates(packs2,3,4), update tmpgenc to 2.521 and move to C:\tempgenc, install dvdsvcd to C:\tmpgenc\dvd2svcd, install virtual dub p4, and install virtual dub mpeg2, install virtualdubmod1.5.4.1build2066. Then install the fixed dvd2avi to C:\tmpgenc\dvd2avi and put mpeg2dec3.dll where it belongs. Basically, I mostly understand how these programs work seperately but I'm having trouble imagining how they work together as many of them are closely related(avisynth and dvd2avi both use mpeg2dec3). It grieved me to post this, so please be understanding.

Unfortunately, I have no idea where the following programs fit into this scheme, but I want to install them: gordian knot.28.5, swiftavs version.90,directX version9.0(i still have version 8.1), and autodub.

Any ideas?

At this stage i think it will be better to Re-install windows than planning to change position(or uninstalling) of already installed programs. Then plan what s/w is most required and how to install in different drives, then finally install only the required ones.
This also gives u better stability and little higher performance.;)

Thank you tuning for the prompt response. I forgot to mention that I share this computer and can't re-install windows because of the existing setup of other programs that belong to the owner. Anyway, norton system works2003 has a program called "backup wizard" I think I could make a backup then make it read-only then uninstall proper. Does anyone see any major problems? If not, I'll go ahead with it.
