Hi,
I have PAL dvds that I want to convert To NTSC. I have software that will convert AVI PAL to NTSC but I cannot figure converting the DVD to AVI. I tried DVD2AVI, it takes forever and I end up with no sound.
Any simple solution for the simple minded ?

Welcome to the forum. First: please follow the forum rules. Second: lurk around. I have learned more just by reading others post than any other way. I have had questions answered I didn't even know how to ask, just by lurking around. Third: Need more input. Give us as complete a picture of what you have and want to do as possible. Post log files if you can. What is your desired output? I am assuming you are looking for dvd output. Learn GKnot. Visit Doom9 Guides (http://www.doom9.org) There is a dvd-dvd guide with needed software links. Gknot can be difficult, but you will get a clearer understanding of the entire process if you learn it than any other app IMHO. Lastly, Fourth: use the search key. I consider myself to be a real dummy with this stuff but just by the steps I outlined above I have only had to ask 3 questions. I lurked for a good 9 months before I signed up. This is a great forum. Most questions have already been asked and answered many times. Again welcome:D

DVD2AVI isn't normally used for what you think. What you do with that is create a d2v project that you can load into other programs that can create a much better avi for you. Like echooff said, learn how to use Gknot. I suggest you use Robot4Rip to get you started and then use that for Gknot. Please read the guides at Doom9 for starting. Also there are two types of avi's that most users here use. DivX and Xvid. You choose which one is simpler for you to use and then use the appropriate guide.

Here is a little something to start up with.
Instead of saving avi in dvd2avi use the 'save project' instead. U will end up with a d2v project that will take around 5 mins of your time while in the same time u will have the audio of the dvd in ac3 or wav format, according to your settings.
This project, u can convert to a frameserving pseudoavi using vfapi encoder or avisynth and u can feed it to tmpeg or CCE for mpeg2 conversion. A more detailed look at dvd2avi guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2avi.htm) will help you far more to start with.
