View Full Version : Following Tutorials gave me a bigger File Size

So I followed Doom9.org's Big 3 guide, but using the updated programs and using CCE2.5. The after running BatchCCE, the movie file is actually bigger than 4.7 gigs, and when I load Scenarist up with the file created from the Reauthorist Script, and try to create the dvd, Scenarist tells me that the DVD is too big. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong either.
I'm working on Tenchi Muyo OVA DVD 01, from the Box set, which includes DVD 02, and an Encyclopedia.
Are there some settings I should be doing and shouldn't be doing? Please help! I've been having BatchCCE run over and over to try and lower the size, but changing the bitrate doesn't help. I started off with 2298 when it's only 1 audio track, 1 subtitle track, and the movie itself. Then, with all the other stuff, 1 extra audio track, and 1 extra subtitle track, the bitrate for the movie itself goes down to 2098, and the file size is still too big.
Is there a problem with Reauthorist or BatchCCE? I'm not sure, and this is quite frustrating. I'm thinking of just trying to lower the average bitrate until I get the right size, but it's very time consuming.
Thanks in advance, I hope to hear from you guys soon!

If you keep guessing on the bitrate you will loose quite some time. Use abitrate calculator to calculate the desired bitrate.
Or just open your avs script in cce manually and give in the desired settings. When you choose multipass VBR you can choose advanced. Here you can play with the bitrate and see real time the effects on your filesize.

Well, I used the Bitrate Calc from DIF4U, and BatchCCE just gives a file size. ReAuthorist also calculates the bitrate. But in any case, the bitrates were around the same.
I checked out what you said Influenza, about the advanced settings. The file size was supposed to be 3,452,260,045 bytes, with an average bitrate of 2093 and max bitrate of 9160. Bias is set to 25.
With all that set and processed, through BatchCCE, the file size came to 4,903,211,648 bytes. Now that is way too big for a DVD. And not matter what bitrate I set it to, it's been the same size.
Would Avisynth play a roll in this? Because I'm using Avisynth 2.5.2.0 instead of 2.0 I'm about to try a roll back and see if that helps any.
I've already reinstalled DIF4U, BatchCCE, CCESP, and ReAuthorist, and the file size still comes out the same. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, just following the guide.
Help?
Thanks in advance!

Then there should be some bug when using batchcce on an already encoded file. I'm quite sure that if you would have pressed the encode button in CCE the file would have come out at the predicted size.
Prob only thing to fix this is to delete your *.vaf file and encode again completely from start.
(Iwould prefer to encode through CCE directly though in this case)

I'll try encoding directly through CCE. But my question is of course where do I retrieve the settings I use for CCE? And what happens with all the chapters and information that is used in BatchCCE?
I know I can open a ECL file, but I'm not really sure if it's the right one.

I suggest you do some reading on how CCE is used (manually) to get some better understanding about encoding with CCE. Try the guide at doom9

Right right. I'm going to try a different way now... since I've been depending on BatchCCE this whole time, I'm gonna try Trlights guide at the same time.... just without the Batch, and use Reauthorist without batch. ^_^
Wish me luck!

Good luck! :D
It's better to know how to do things manually before automating. Gives you a lot better understanding. :sly:

from what i've seen, there is currently no feature to actually reuse the .vaf when using docce4u/batchcce. It always recreates the .vaf from scratch at the start of the encode.

I think there is, if you choose One Pass VBR instead of RoboBach.
So this is what I did thus far. Ripped everything with DIF4U, then I used ReAuthorist and deselected all the stuff like FBI video (etc), 1 audio track, and 1 sub track. Clicked on Encode, which created some txt files. But since I'm using BatchCCE, it won't load autmoatically. So then, instead of using BatchCCE, I clicked Author It! instead and it created an ecl file and a script for scenarist, of course.
Instead of using BatchCCE to encode, I tried loading the ecl in CCE, which it did, and I didn't change anything and started the encoding. Let's see if it sticks to the file size that it's supposed to, or just go over board, aye?
