Before pressing the start button (which incidentally looks like a play button) we have to do one last thing in case we're dealing with a PAL project. If you're dealing with an NTSC project you can skip these proceedings. As previously mentioned, PAL material can be interlaced and currently DIF4U cannot automatically determine this reliably. To make sure that your parameters are correct, BitrateViewer can help you.
i have no artifacts in wmp but bitrate tells me it is interlaced, what should i do ?
The next thing is copying all the files together to a common directory (I suggest you create a new directory for that).
this is not clear to me, do i need to create a new dir for this or can i use the video_ts folder of dif4u ? because in the tuto it uses for ifoupdate the dif4u video_ts folder which means to me that u have to do it in the dif4u video_ts dir.
sorry if i'm not clear qnd my english isn't perfect but i'm french, thanks 4 your help.
i've been working on this method for 2 weeks now and still can't get a working backup, always something wrong.
ps : i have a method where he uses the ifoupdate of numenu4u tto do the ifoupdate part of the tuto, has anyone infos about this way to do 'cause it seems really easier.

Trust your eyes, but DON'T do it in wmp. you need to look at it *frame by frame* via AVISynth -> Virtualdub or something like that.

It's all up to you, make them all one one place that's all that matters. But make sure you're copying the right files (make sure you read the tutorial carefully).

If your ntsc im not sure what you would do, but for pal, yes trust your eyes. When checking i use dvd2avi to check, never knew i could with virtual dub.
Akira (pal) was said to be interlaced be bitrate viewer and dvd2avi, but i check the video with dvd2avi and there was no interlacing lines, so i encoded it progressive with zigzag scan order and it came out perfectly fine, watch it all the way through with no problems.

i did like the tuto says and no subs.

Can you elaborate some more on your subtitle problem? What exactly are you doing? What exactly doesn't work?
Your subs get extracted ok?
You see your subs in scenarist?
How do you use ifoupdate?
etc

my subs get extracted when i use dif4u, i see them in scenarist, but under reauthorist the names of the subs are gone, i notice also that under dif4u i have [wlp] on each subs name's side.
i use ifo update like it's told in the tuto.
which means that i update the ifos of the vts i've encoded and i don't touch the video_ts.ifo
the tuto i'm using is this one (http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/24_1.html)
i check the same options in ifoupdate as it is said in the tuto
don't understand why it doesn't work
by the way, the film is misery (zone 2)

Your using a good guide, so that cannot be the problem.
You say you see them in scenarist but not in reauthorist? That's strange (at least the sequence: first you use reauthorist and then scenarist).
When you see your subs in scenarist they should be selectable after compiling. You don't get any subs at all?
WHat are the names of the subpicture streams in scenarist?
the phoenix

don't worry, i use reauthorist first then encode then scenarist.
i just said that under authorist i don't see the names of the subs anymore, but i can select them, but with no names it's difficult.
i don't get any sub at all after compiling.
the names under scenarist are :
def_subtitle_01
def_subtitle_02
in the data editor i have the def_subtitle_0x folder and another folder inside with the same name. i don't know if it's normal.
i give you the name of 1 file inside this folder : VTS_02_VSUB_P1A1-00-WLP-E there are many others.
i tried the film with shrink and it worked, i had the subs
by the way, after selecting what i want to keep in authorist and before encoding i do author it so i can close authorist, then i start the encoding, is it a problem ?

I allways encode before using RA so I don't know if it's ok to close it. What happens if you play your compiled vobset, can you then select the desired subtitle?
the phoenix

i'm sorry but what do u mean by play the compiled vobset ?
i also played the film with ifoedit player, nothing, no subs.

my subs get extracted when i use dif4u, i see them in scenarist, but under reauthorist the names of the subs are gone
addition Added ability to suppress AR insertion in sub filenames, for compatibility with RA 1.0.0 (if AR is there, it uses Not Specified as sub language) -straight from version 1.2.0 of DoItFast4U Revision History (http://www.doitfast4u.com)
Please take the time to learn all the features, especially the new ones I add, it will greatly facilitate your needs.

6th October 2003, 23:18
did you use the 'copy audio and subpicture tables' feature in ifoupdate?
the phoenix
6th October 2003, 23:28
no i didn't as it is said in the tuto.
should i ?
Eyes`Only
6th October 2003, 23:37
yes! that will cause you to not get subs shown if your end ifo shows something like (0x20,0x21). Notice the scenarist IFO says 0x20. That's how your final IFO should look too, which is what that switch does.
the phoenix
7th October 2003, 00:03
ok, i will try that
should i do this every time now ?
Eyes`Only
7th October 2003, 00:04
I do it on every IFO that i reencode that has subs, or that i've removed audio from.
the phoenix

thanks
and regarding the interlaced and progressive thing, i never checked that before and runned the encoding without taking care of it.
is it bad ?
will my video get bad quality ?
because i looked at my avs script and it's far different from the one in my tuto so i can't change it.

I can't really think of any more guesses to make with the given data. email me the log file and the original ifo, scenarist ifo, and post-ifoupdate ifo if you want, and i'll try to figure something out.
