I doubt it was 8.5 GB media.... double sided discs are 9.4 GB

Each media is 4489mb max.

So DVD-10 (double) is 8978MB to be exact.

DVD-9 is 7.95GB max.

Prices are always somewhat weird when something new is launched. Think of the $1000 you had to pay for a Pioneer A03 when it was launched, think of the first dvd-r, think of 4x dvd-r when they came up.

Yeah, I know. I payed $1000 for an A03, and the price take long months until see a real drop on prices.

Remember A03 was launched in 2000 (or end of '99?), and we're going to 2004 pretty soon. It was nearly to 4 years ago, and in IT area this is a lot of time.
