VCD on 4.7 GB DVD-RW

Hi

I was wondering if it is possible to encode several movies in VCD format and burn them on a DVD-RW disc. Will it work as a normal VCD?

Probably not. It will probably work with a software player, but I wouldn't know a standalone which supports sth. like you describe. Same goes for SVCD, btw.
However, you can reauthor the files as a dvd, vcd resolution is dvd-compliant. Just resample the audio to 48 kHz & author your dvd using tmpg-author or another package.

This creature should be called maxiVCD (the opposite to miniDVD) :)

I believe IfoEdit096 is able to author more than one Title in a DVD and it is freeware.

The DVD standard supports mpeg1 at VCD resolution but the audio should be 48 kHz instead of 44.1 kHz on DVD. You can do this easily with TMPGEnc DVD Author.

This is a follow-up answer to ronnylov's answer. VCD's resolution of 352x240 or 352x288 is already DVD-compliant, except you have to convert the audio portion to a 48KHz.

To help you do that, you can use tool like SVCD2DVDMPG and SVCD2DVD. The first one is free, while the second is not. You can find it here:

P.S. I use the first tool, SVCD2DVDMPG, which create me a DVD-compliant Mpeg, and import it into TMPGEnc DVD Author and author it to a VCD-on-DVD. Or like ronnylov said, don't do anything, TMPGEnc DVD Author will convert the audio stream for you. IMHO, SVCD2DVDMPG convert the audio faster.
