Got a new HP dvd300vi burner the other day, and it burns OK at 2.4x, but when I try to burn a dvd at 4x, it takes just as long as a 2.4x disc. I've tried different brands of media. I use Nero 6 and the time counter counts down from about 15 min., as it should, then the elasped time just keeps on going to about 24 min., which is 2.4x speed time. Anyone run into this problem before? Would it be Nero or the hp firmware?:confused:

I have bought a LG 4040B GSA, and also use nero (ver 6.0.0.11). It perfectly burns at 4x (Really 3.9x), and it takes 15 minutes and a few seconds to completely fill a DVD (and I made a test just leaving about 6MB free).

I use DVD-R 4x. Trademark: Verbatim (Very nice and much cheaper than TDK). I burn in UDF 1.50 mode.

You may install a windows register patch, that forces nero to tell the instantaneous writing speed instead of the desired one (That's how I discovered it was burning at 3.9x instead of 4x). Just create a text file with .reg extension, write the following text and execute to add the patch to windows registry.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder]
"ShowSingleRecorderSpeed"=dword:00000001

I forgot, you should also check that DMA is enabled and the drive is not using PIO. If DMA is disabled you won't ever be able to burn at 4x.

Also make sure DMA is enabled on your HD also.

I also have the HP300i and never had a problem, it takes approx 13min at 4x for a full disk. I'm using nero 60015. And like the others said check that DMA is enabled.

I've done some checking and found that it's not the burner's fault, it's a DMA problem. I have two 60Gb drives, primary master and slave. The master is set for DMA, but the slave, the one I usually rip and burn from, is stuck on PIO. I tried burning from the master and it burned at 4x speed. Any suggestions on how to change the slave to PIO? I've tried to change it in the device manager, but it stays on PIO. I've read sometimes the IDE cable is the problem.:confused:

Update:
Uninstalled Primary IDE controller and restarted. Updated driver and DMA enabled on both drives. Burned a dvd at 4x in 14 min. Thanks for your help.
