Is there anyway to convert a AVI file into stantard DVD format. I tried reading here and using DVD2SVCD but only get mpg2, mp2 file and such.

OR can I convert MPG into standard DVD format?

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

The video would need to be transcoded to MPEG-2 in a DVD compliant resolution; the audio may require transcoding as well. Then, an authoring tool must be used to create the .VOB set(s) needed.

Doom9 has an AVI to DVD guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm) which may give you a feel for one possible process. He has plenty of additional guides for authoring and transcoding if you wish to use different processes or different tools for DVD production.

Doom9 also has a SpruceUp Guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/spruceup.htm).

I recommend clicking here (http://www.doom9.org/dvd-basics.htm) and here (http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm) and do some reading; my guess is that most of your initial questions will be answered.
