hello,
when i play my movie it looks clean on the computer, but on my dv deck, tv, and vcr it has these big grey rectagles of pixelation.
i've been trying to work around this by exporting and compressing the movie, making new media and seeing if avid would read it with out this pixelation. i thought it worked on a test i did a couple days ago, but it doesn't. i've tried exporting QT files with various compression, and a QT ref and then compressinng that with quicktime.

when i re-import the new files into avid and play them, they display the same pixelation problems.

this all stems from a problem that i've posted about many times on avid's site and no-one has ever known anything about it, but for background's sake, i'll describe it to you:

i've been editing this movie for a year. about six months ago these small black pixelation errors started appearing as well as little audio blips. THESE ERRORS ARE NOT ON MY ORRIGINAL FOOTAGE TAPES. i tried errasing a clip that was riddled with these errors and re-digitizing it. it came up clean. so i errased all my footage and redigitized it. low and behold, the pixelation errors were still all over the movie, just in different spots.

i switched from 2k and 3.0 to xp and 3.5 about half way through the year, maybe that was the source of the problem. probably these little black spots and audio errors are the source of the bigger grey pixelation errors.

I HAVE OTHER FOOTAGE AND MOVIES ON THIS COMPUTER THAT PLAY TO DECK PERFECTLY THROUGH AVID.

this is all original footage. shot NTSC on a GL1. there are no mixed resolutions. a couple shots were shot with a sony dcr pc-100. its all 16x9 footage.

when i was first editing the movie last summer there were definitely not any of these problems. somewhere in the middle of the year they occured. i don't remember if it was exactly when i upgraded or not.

when i watch the movie in xdv there are none of the BIG GREY pixelation problems. there are the little black ones. and i've fixed most of the sound, by editing out the blips. when i export a QT movie there are also none of the big grey pixelation errors, only the smaller black ones. only on the dv cam and the monitor i patch it to can you see the big pixelation problems.

my system spex are:
athalon t bird 1.4
abit kg7 raid
ati radeon dual head ve
2x 120 gig ibm desk stars 7k rpm (has all the video)
1x 60 gig of the same
1x20 gig of the same
d-link firewire card (texas instruments)

sony dcr pc-100 camcorder as deck

sorry this is so long. just being thurough.
thanks for any ideas
