"PixelPlus" from Philips, is that good ?

As the title said,

Anyone here use the Philips TV with PixelPlus technology ?

I notice that the picture is much & much better compare with
the regular Flat Screen TV.

There is NO "jerky" lines. :)

Is there any other competitors from other brand ? (not HDTV)

Some people love, others hate it.
It looks great on slow moving or static images, but just as with other digital manipulation, it can (and does) cause artifacts during on screen movement and pans etc.

The only thing to do is have a good look at it with a variety of source material. It really is a very subjective thing.

I like it. In fact my Philips is the best TV set I ever had (and it should be: €2.400,-). You have to play with the sharpening settings, else you may get those halos you might know very well from some over-sharpened DVDs.

My TV has a demo mode, where you see the normal picture on the left side (which is not bad), and the PixelPlus picture on the right. You clearly see the difference - it's almost like HDTV (ok, this is a little exaggerated...).

If you ask me, the best TV sets (except TFT or plasma) you can buy nowadays are from Philips. Note that I'm neither from the Netherlands nor get I paid for advertising Philips ;)

Yea, we have a Philips pixelplus TV at work. And I have to say I like it too!

The demo mode is good fun and like you say, clearly shows the differences that the 'pixelplus' processing can achieve. Which I think works much better than the Sony equivalent!

Philips have just introduced the same technology into one of it's plasma screens. However it's not been as well received.

No, not really.

PixelPlus
... is a very clever form of digital processing. It's borrowed from technologies and techniques associated with 'line doubling'.

PALplus
... a very clever idea. A kind of, 'one size will fit all' solution. For sending the same signal to both a 16:9 and a 4:3 TV/monitor. And I know that's an over simplification of what it does!
When you consider that PALplus was first dreamed up over 10 years ago and in the days when digitizing video as in it's infancy and extreamly expensive. It was an amazing concept!

EDIT: I suppose, when you think about it. Both ideas do share some common ground!

I started clearing out an old store shelf the other day. Anybody remember that you could actually buy LaserDisc 'recorders'?
