After reading the many wonderous benefits of vaguedenoiser scattered about this forum, I set out to compare it with peach on a very noisy VHS (10 yrs old, SLP mode) source containing Star Trek Animated Series.
After some cropping & letterboxing, I'm able to get decomb to pattern match correctly and the output is nice and smooth with the following denoising routine:
GuavaComb(Mode="NTSC",Recall=75,MaxVariation=15,Activation=90) # Tune down MaxVariation to avoid artifacts
PeachSmoother(NoiseReduction=45,Stability=15,Spatial=20,NoiseLevel=3.129,Baseline=2.571) # Use Readout=true to determine NoiseLevel & Baseline levels
FluxSmooth(10,-1)
This cleans it up considerably and Peach & Flux do a better job together than they do on their own, but I'd rather not mix filters of similar abilities if possible. For example, if I increase FluxSmooth to anything past (10,-1) it looks great on static scenes but creates terrible posterization which is perhaps due to Peach already doing some Temporal cleaning, which from looking at the docs, can't be explicitly set.
I would like to replace Peach with VagueDenoiser and I'm wondering if anyone has already done some testing with the various temporal/spatial cleaners in conjunction with VagueDenoiser, and if so what would your recommendation be?
