This question might have been asked already, if so I apologize (couldn't find it when I was searching though).

I was thinking of getting a dvd burner but isn't sure which one to buy. Is there any dvd-player that is better than the others, eg. that makes more compatible dvds? How important is the cache memory of the burner? Should I go with a cheap burner like nec ND-1300 or try with another more expensive? The only thing I've decided is to get a +/- burner.

Thanks for the help!

hi,
honestly, I do not know about media compatibility of the NEC, but of what i've heard it is quite a decent burner. probably it can't quite hold up with a new pioneer (or alike), but I don't think you'll have to many troubles with it.
Personally I got a Sony burner (DRU 500 ULX) and am very satisfied with it. No problems so far...but of course it IS quite a lot more expensive and it is up to you if you want to spend that much money...

for user reviews about media compatibility (etc) you can take a look at www.dvdrhelp.com

I just bought a TDK 440n external burner and so far I am very very pleased with it. It connects either by Firewire or USB 2.0 (I'm using the Firewire connection since my computer has that already). I haven't had a single coaster with it, yet. It supports all DVD formats (the + and the -) as well as CDR and CDRW. They make an internal model also which is a bit cheaper than the external.

The Pioneer A07 should be out soon, which will have 8x +R and 8x -R burning. If you can't wait, the A06 is good, and also has hacked region-free firmware.
