Recently I've downloaded some really small files of a tv show. The files are about 50 mb or so. Even though the quality is not great I wanted to convert them to avi or mpg so that I could either burn them to a disc or watch them in some other player besides Windows Media Player (I hate WMP). I have seached on this site and many other sites that deal with dvd-r, backup, etc but all of the software suggestions have not worked. I have tried TMPGEnc both old and new versions, asfsoft, svconvert, virtual dub older and newer versions, etc. None of the suggestions have worked. I don't know if there is a difference but it is encoded in WMV3 or 4 I believe. I have tried a program called GSpot or something like that and when I try to render it is says something like unrecognizeable codec.
Is it possible that the way it was encoded is just really screwed up or is it some DRM BS? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and don't yell at me for downloading tv shows. When the show comes out on DVD in another six months or so I will be buying it. I only downloaded it because I missed all the episodes and I want to have a clue as to what's going on.
