View Full Version : Buffer of DVD decrypter in 100%

I use DVD Decrypter to rip DVDs. When I rip, many times I want to use the computer to do other stuff, so the rip goes in the background. I have noticed that whenever I click another window that makes the window from the DVD decrypter application NOT to be the active one, the buffer usage indicator starts to increase and it soon reaches the 100% mark, or around, and stays there as long as the DVD Decrypter window is not the active one. If I click the DVD Decrypter window to make it the active one, the buffer usage indicator instantly starts to decrease and goes back to around 0-7%.
This happens no matter which size the buffer was set.
I noticed also that although the buffer is around 100%, it seems that there is no read rate consequences, since the rate stays basically the same, around 2.3-2.7 x). Also, no read errors occur.
So, my question is: is there a problem having DVD Decrypter to work with its buffer around 100% all the time?

Buffering whilst reading means the program is unable to decrypt and write to your hdd quick enough to keep up with the speed at which the dvdrom is reading!
Basically, that should never happen. :)

Lightning, I understand what you say but it puzzles me anyway.
If I use a virtual DVD player, and I rip from it (from HD to HD), I can get speeds of up to 16x. I have already done that. So my computer is pretty capable of handling such a speed.
If I use my real old and cheap DVD player, the speed I get is 2.5x, average. Then, only by clicking another window, while ripping, even if I do nothing else, I mean, only by making the DVD Decrypter window not the active one, is enough to make the buffer usage indicator go to 100%. The speed stays the same, around 2.5x, no errors, but the buffer gets full. The computer is doing nothing but ripping.
If I start doing other stuff, while ripping, the speed may go slower, showing that then the CPU is being not capable to deal with all the stuff.

EDIT: problem solved: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=379856#post379856 Well, it's not solved but I now know where the problem lays.
