can't open SVCD

hi,

as the topic says I can'T open a SVCD CD.

I got this CD from a friend and hi says he can play it on a normal DVD player (not PC).

As normal I can open and view SVCD's with PowerDVD but not this one.
I always get an error about "can't open file. Media is not supported"
Same in WMP (wmp 6.4 classic).
Opening it with Tmpeg -> same. "can't open file."

ok here are some details:

And if you look at the size of the CD at Winodws-Explorer it says "1.17MB" are full. And the video vile size is "711MB"

and I can't even copy it over to my HD!!
error -> "Invalid MS-DOS function"

What is this? Am I missing something?

Looks like an error in the TOC of the disc. The DVD player don't care about but the computer does! Maybe something went wrong while burning the disc, e. g. bad CDR-media. Just burn it again using another media brand.

I don't think so that burning it again would solve the prob!
Because It is already on a disc and if I burn it again I copy over the errors. -> I don't have the source! Just the SVCD CD's.

Maybe another player could solve it?

Get isobuster & extract the mpeg. Reauthor your svcd. Chapters will be lost, though.
Maybe the disc was burnt with an older version of Nero (notorious for burning faulty svcds).
As for a different player, try sthsvcd. Crappy playback quality, but it can deal with some "problem discs".

but I think I know what the prob is now or what it could be!

I've made it to copy the SVCD's via Alcohol120% as an Image to my HD.
From those Image files cue/bin I extracted the mpeg streams with vcdgear.
Worked well and I was able to watch the movies.
Beause the mpg files are to big for a normal CD-R I burned them as a vcd/svcd with Nero6
again. And there is the problem! after burning one CD with Nero6 as a VCD or SVCD
I could not watch the movie!! The same errors as with the CD's form my friend came up,
and I was not able to watch the movies. Neither with PowerDVD or WMPClassic.

So, could it be that Nero6 is the Problem?
Or do I need something to play those (S)VCD's recorded with Nero6??
