help with improving a videos quality

Not sure if this is the right place, if someone could point me to a site that could help then it would be a lot of help.

I got some videos from some friends playing paintball where one of them mounted a small digial camera inside his goggles. This worked quite well up until they had a sunny day :(

now because the camera is mounted inside some goggles, there are some bright spots of light where light is reflecting off the main visor. This means ~1/3rd of the video is unwatchable.

I was wondering if there were any filters which dealt with reflections where it would detect bright patches and darken them to fit the surroundings. Seems like a lot to ask of just a filter but there is no way to re-record these videos :(

is it a lens flare that moves about whenever the sun moves? cause the best i can suggest for that is virtualdub's windowed histogram equalize. this will flatten out the rest of the picture though.

if it's just a static bright spot that doesn't vary, you could mock up what it looks like in photoshop and play with layering it over the original in after effects or similar. there's filters for virtualdub that do similar to this, but only for a circular bright spot (like you get with an uneven projector bulb).
