Hello, I'm planing on buying a DVD burner (this week!), and I'm looking for advice. I've read another guy's post and he decided to buy a pioneer 106, however I'd like to know if anyone has had any BAD experiences with it, like not being able to burn at 4x with 4x-certified media brand "X", etc

A friend of mine has a different, 2x burner, and has never been able to burn at 2x... even with 4x media. I think I read somewhere that this is supposed to happen? I don't want a 4x burner and have to burn at 1x...

Ok well, where I live I'm only able to buy 4X media manufactured by LG(at descent prices, any other media like verbatim or maxell with jewel case are like $6-7 bucks each!)

Has anyone burned with them?

I'm almost certain I'll get the pioneer 106, but there's a sony dru-500a for the same price, so I'll decide based on which one has less problems...

recommendations?
thank you :D

A friend of mine has a different, 2x burner, and has never been able to burn at 2x... even with 4x media. Then it must be a Toshiba 5002, and he has tried to use princo crap media.

The Toshiba 5002 has no problem with burning good media at 2x.

my dvd-rom drive is f***k right now so I can't obtain the dvd-info code (if that's what u asked), I'll ask someone at school tomorrow...

the disc itself, on the inner ring of the back side has this code:

G47 DE01 ####
where #### is a number that varies

and in the inner plastic ring:
D0704 0345GMI 01 X-# ######
where X is a variable alphabetic character, and # are variable numbers

well I bet u asked for the other code anyway, I'll get it later...

thx

Nah... insert the disc in a DVD writer and launch dvd decryptor
