Hi Guys,

2 Quick questions about XVID when used in conjunction w/ ffvfw.

a) Is the codec ffvfw uses for compression when using the XVID options the installed XVID codec on the system? Or a version built into ffvfw.

b) The 2nd 2ndpass mode which ffvfw enables for the encoder, does it provide similar reductions in visible noise, comparable to DivX's nth pass encoding?

Thanks Guys,

Gizmo

maybe lack of details means noise reduction for some people

When encoding for anime, the percieved lack of detail also accompanies a reduction in noise.

At any rate, You're quite sure it's using its own eh? Do you have any idea which tree it was/is based on then?

This mpeg4 codec used in ffmpeg is not XviD. XviD used to be in ffvfw too and I think milan is working on dev-api-4 for ffvfw so soon it may be back in ffvfw. The mpeg4 codec used in ffmpeg is very high quality just as good as XviD IMO, you might even be able to make the case that it is better, ;) As for your second question I think if you encode with h.263 quant it will sort of resemble a DivX encode. Not sure if this is what you are looking for or not.
