I am a bit sceptical if its always possible to differentiate between the 2, just think of DirectShow decoding questions, where in most cases the container parser filter and the decoder filter have to work properly together ... we'll see, i am not against it, just a bit sceptical ....

I agree entirely. This will make things more complicated :(

I felt that way too, but as Doom9 stated, that forum was getting a hell of a lot of posts (like the AviSynth forum once did) so I think although it may cause confusion on some issues, overall the forum will be "cleaner" (as the New Formats forum tended to look chaotic)

merging is a lot easier than splitting.. so we'll just see how it turns out. So far I think I was able to differentiate between the two without too much problems. Of course the difference can be fluent (as it is with new A!/v formats and audio encoding..) but somehow I think we'll manage
