I have backed up a couple of movies with InstantCopy 7 and 8 and i have encountered some problems with some of them. Ex of movies with this prob are Signs, The Bourne Identiy, Lotr Two Towers, Snow Dogs, What Lies Beneath.
I read that there are people in this forum with same problem. But i couldnt find any answere on why this occured. So i ask why does this error occour .
Some info on the problem:
Menus work good before i burn with IC. (From HD)
Menus doesnt show correctly after IC:s resize and burn. (From DVDr)
Even when DVDr played in computer.
Although sometimes it helps if i wait for a minute or two in the menu with errors. This means that the info is written on the dvd but it cant be read correctly.
My conclusion is that the menus get corrupted after burning with InstantCopy, and i havent tried this but would it help if i didnt resize the menus (leave them at 100%) and just resize the movie.
I am sorry if i am beeing unclear, its just that i am new to forums and this is my first post in this forum.

lemme ask you this. Are you doing
a) 1:1 (everything)
or
b) doing main movie + menu taking out extras?
If doing b) then that's your problem. You shouldn't use strip titles. If not then I'm not too sure.

Assuming you do a 1:1 backup:
I don't want to confuse you even further, but sometimes strange things happen with menus, even if left at 100% (IC7).
Sometimes menus are "strange" in their behaviour on Power DVD, but OK on standalone (9 Mile)
Sometimes when played on Philps' or Marantz players, strange things appear (Blocks, noise, dissappearing buttons), but they play OK on Power DVD... (Chicago, at least on my case, no matter what transcoder I use (IC7, CloneDVD, DVD2ONE, DVDShrink)
Same DVD-Rs play OK on Cyberhome 212, so for sure (well, 99%) something got changed that got it out of norm.
Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge (nor the time, nor will :) ) to really do a 1:1 comparison.
My case:
On Chicago Menus, the introductory clip before the 1st menu screen has the same cell ID as the menu. So this MIGHT be the reason it plays "blocky" on standalone, and following menus have no active buttons. Turning off and on the player (Philips 743), it goes to main menu which plays OK now. I tried changing Cell ID with Menuedit, even deleted it, no way I can make it work OK.
So I tried the ultimate solution:
I did a movie only backup, and moved to the next movie :)

Hmmm sorry for the late reply.
Guys i really appretiate ur answeres but i am affraid both of u missunderstood the problem. The problem i am talking about is not a usual menu problem u encounter when u stripp stuff out or doing stuff to the menus. It is abit hard to explain but people who encountered the this problem recognize it at once. Now let me give some more info so it can clear up more stuff.
I like the dvd as it is and i must say that i am not picky when it comes to saving every gig or mb for the quality of the main movie. What i mean is that i always do a 1:1 copy i never edit the content (hmmm accept the fact that InstantCopy resizes the content to a DVD5).
About the DVDr (copy), the error is definetly burned in. So no it doesnt help if i play it in power dvd or a dvd recorder instead of a dvd player nor on a stationary dvd. (this part is confirmed belive me).
The problem is narrowed down to InstantCopy so much is clear but why does it occour is my big question. When i try to backup one of the mentioned movies again it will be the same result and remember the menus work fine on the original and on the hd version.
One last thing i would understand and accept this problem if it was a bug in InstantCopy. But since not many ppl have heard of it i start to doubt that. The movies are famous and my dvd burner is not that shabby (Sony DRU500AX with latest firmware), so where is the problem then.
To Admins:
I wanted to post this in "InstantCopy 8" thread but i missunderstood the buttons and ended up posting outside it so i appoligies to the admin of this forum (by the way i couldnt remove the thread after posting it even though it was unanswered and i was the creator).
ohh almost forgott there are some ppl in the "InstantCopy 8" thread that have this problem to, i noticed it when searching for similar probs but they only mention it about "Lotr Two Towers" durring the chapter menu.
Again i want to thank u guys for the help, i have been thinking about this problem for more then 2 months now.

Have you tried other transcoders?
(DVDShrink, CloveDVD, etc )

Mostly i use InstantCopy but once i did actually use another program it was DVDExpress and ohhhhhhhhhhh i tell ya this dont ever fall for that one guys. That program is F**** up , it puts protections in the dvd u backup and stops u from making further bakups from ur copy and it puts its own logos in the beginning of the dvd with some brief info about DVDExpress. I think i will start testing other programs to, hmm just need to read or try them out abit first. DVDshrink or dvd2one or whatever is similar to instantcopy.
