Can someone with PS2 & DVD-R expirience please share some compatibility tips & tricks?

I have a Pioneer A05 (f/w 1.33 original) and burn backups of my DVD's on "3T Pro"-Discs. (AdvInfo says MCC dye, so it should be the same High-Quality media Verbatim uses)

The program I use is Nero 6.0 with No Joliet and Iso Level 1.

My backups works fine on both my PC's, my Philips DVD-722 and my friends Onkyo DVD-player.

Recently I borrowed a PS 2 (chipped).
When i put the backupped DVD-R the disc just spins, nothing else happens (tried 3 backups on same media, burnt with same program Nero)

So, what's most possible the problem?
The media, Nero, the PS2 or the settings in Nero (No Joliet, Iso 1)?

The media is h/q Verbatim for gods sake... =)
Nero and the settings within the program works on most other players!
This must be a PS2 issue, right????

But to make it even more illogic, I can watch other burnt DVD-R on the PS2 (friends 8MM-video backups... but off course they have other burners, other programs, other media.)
I don't know were to start digging on this problem......

So ppl with expireince on PS 2 and DVD-R, please share your thoughts!
Thank you very much!

All mine work on PS2 - NEC 1300a - Nero 5.10 or WinOnCD 6.0
So I don't know if that helps you narrow it down - media has also made no difference to me.

PS2s are fine with any half-decent media, I think your problem is Nero. Having hung around in plenty of PS2 backup forums I can tell you that most people, myself included, use Stomp's Record Now Max 4.5 to make a global image of the disc then burn back at 1x using the same program. Give it a try.

Playstation freaks like audio engineers are facinated by 1 x burn speed !
I burned PS1 backups at 12 x speed and they worked.
I burned DVDs at 4x with Nero that work perfectly on PS2

PS2 definately doesn't play +R so it could be your media.

12x CD-R burns and 4x DVD-R burns will work fine almost all of them time. The only reason people burn at 1x is because no matter what type of disc you are burning the error rate is lower at 1x than 4x.

V7 PS2s do support DVD+R.

Ok, sounds like the problem is most likely Nero, and not the media.

I'll give another program a shoot!
Thanks for the help!

Problem solved!!!!!!!!

Tried a Ritek-G04 disc @ 4x speed, and changed settings in Nero from "Iso Level 1 - No Joliet" to "Iso Level 1 WITH Joliet".

I don't know if it was the media or the settings, but it works perfect now... tried several backups!!!!!!

my PS2 will only read Ritek
nothing else works no matter what i do.
only one ritek has ever failed me
and that had a much lighter underside
than the others. Dark purple or forget it!

The only reason people burn at 1x is because no matter what type of disc you are burning the error rate is lower at 1x than 4x.You should not read cdrinfo

You should not read cdrinfo

Are you saying that 1x speed burns do not have a lower error rate than 4x ones?

On proper media (not princo, not leaddata, etc): correct

Forgot to tell.... I also upgraded from Nero 5.9.x.x to Nero 6.0 when I got it working!
That could also be the explaination!

I think the best way should be to make a DVD-Video compatible disc, isn't it? So you doesn't need Joliet. You need only a UDF(1.02)/ISO9660 bridge filesystem. If you use Nero 6, simply burn your DVD in DVD-Video mode, if you use ImgTool Burn with Nero 6 you don't need to change anything, if you use ImgTool Classic in combination with DVD-Decrypter there is also no need to change anything. Joliet isn't part of DVD-Video standard.

Greets, CouJo!

My ps2 NOT modded read DVD-R(Lg)@2x and DVD+RW(Verbatim)@2.4x (and i guess also DVD+R and DVD-RW, not yet tryed since i have got my burner only last week).
Differents ps2 versions give different compatibility (i guess i'm lucky ^^).

One thing i've see:
Burning with nero (last demo) gives me a dvd that the ps2 plays perfectly, but NOT the pc! (powerdvd tell me that the disc is ruined when i seek!!!).
Instead using imgtool (classic) and dvddecripter to burn WORKS PERFECTLY.

?£"!?£?"!?£?"!?

the funny thing is that when i bought it, DVD+R did not existed :D

I use TAIYO YUDEN THAT's DVD+R 4X.
