Oooh, been a while.

Dunno if this is the right place for this... but I'm thinking it would be nice to be able to see how a given frame would look like when compressed at a given quantizer by XviD/DivX/whatever.

Does one of these exist? If not, would someone be interested in writing one up? :) Might be more useful to have in VD; hell, maybe you could have it pull some other settings out of the registry. But yeah... I'd love to use something like this as a kind of preview/whatnot.

Thanks!

DCTFilter (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/trbarry/downloads.htm) ?

(Haven't ever tried it though)

'display decompressed output' under 'options' in VirtualDub does what you want!

Nah, I don't mean something to use for image enhancement or whatnot (DCTfilter does like the opposite of what I want :), and 'show decompressed output' doesn't do anything that I've ever seen.

I mean something like how some advanced JPEG compression programs allow you to preview the image saved at certain compression levels... with tweaks and such, I guess. Am I making sense?

My DCTCheck plugin does exactly what you're asking for :)
It's available here: http://web.etel.ru/~shalcker/DCTCheck_v05.zip
