Hi,
I've encountered this problem a coupke of times now and don't know a solution:
I've reauthored a movie that has multiple angles with scenarist. Everything goes well but when I play the movie on my standalone there will be an angle symbol shown. Not that bad normally, but when you have subs in the upper part of the screen the angle symbol is shown through the subs, which is annoying.
The original doesn't have this behaviour (no angle symbol), so it must be possible to somehow turn it off?

Open the setup menu of your DVD player and turn off the multiple angle logo.

The problem is that only reauthored dvds have this problem. When I play the original the angle symbol is not showing.

Very interesting!
What is that DVD program in question that can turn off the DVD Player's pre-set of showing the multiple angle symbol?

I've used scenarist for reauthroing, but I cannot find a setting :sly:

As a test I also run the movie through Instant Copy and after this I have the same behaviour: the angle symbol is showing up, while not on the original.
SO it has nothing to do with the authoring package. It's just that my DVD-R shows an other behaviour then the original. Strange thing I must say.

Most of the DVD copying programs remove "user prohibition" items.

As far as I know, DVD settops display an angle icon (if you set your settop to show the icon, many you can find a setting to turn this off) whenever it is possible for the user to hit the 'angle' button on their remote, and switch angles. I don't know how you could turn this off via DVD commands, but I guess someone does!

It's not that the angle button is showing through my entire movie. Only if there's an angled part. It should not be prohibited to change angles (as it's not on the original).
But all of a sudden it's not that annoying anymore :D

I think I understand what you mean. You tried to tell us that your original DVD has multiple angle scenes that won't make the "angle symbol" show up even though your DVD player is set to show it. There is nothing I could find in the SPRM table. Not a single clue at all! Somebody must be clever enough to do this in order to suppress the angle symbol from showing up! Can you reveal to us what is the original DVD that you found being capable of doing such job?

It's exactly as you say. I would understand if there was some prohibition that was removed, but I think there no prohibition in the first place.
I found this both on daredevil and die an other day.

Solution:
Try it this way.
Re-author with scenarist, set the user operation of multiple angle change to "prohibited" (UOP22) for the particular scene.
See if it works.
The angle change is not permitted by pressing on the remote button but you can set a menu to activate the particular angle change somewhere during the playback of the DVD movie.
There should be no other way I could think of.
God bless you!

Have you already compared the cell types on original and authored DVD?
Maybe it has something to do with your problem.

OK! Just test with UOP22 at "prohibited" setting.
I have tried this method to turn off the angle change and it works by restricting end-users accessing the other angles by simply pressing on the remote "Angle" button.
Like most of the other UOP settings when the remote buttons are prohibited, you can stop certain functions being accessed by the end-users such as the display of company logo, copyright declaration etc..., you are not allowed to skip them by pressing on the fast-forward or skip to the next chapter buttons. If you intend to restrict the end-users from freely switching among different angles, just do so, if not, then you just turn off the "display multiple angle symbol" setting of the DVD player that bothers you.
...in fact, I think you have answered your own question yourself when discovered the same problem on both the "re-author" and "DVD shrinking" situations as the "user operation" prohibition are all removed at the very beginning of DVD ripping.

Thanks for all your effort Paul.
I can prohibit this user action ofcourse, but in the original it's not prohibited. It is possible to switch angles with the remote.

Then you may discover the difference yourself by probing with INFOEDIT to make a detail analysis of the original DVD. If there is a way to turn off and angle symbol other than the 2 methods I mentioned above, we would be benefited very much from your research. We'd thank you in advance for this interesting problem.
