mp3pro directshow decoder available

as always get the information first from bond :D

nero burning rom includes a directshow filter called "nero digital audio decoder" (neaudio.ax) which seems to be able to decode mp3pro streams properly according to my first tests

edit: now the bad news:
it doesnt seem to work with .avi, .ogm and .mkv!

avi: very slow playback (with gabest's and the default splitter)
ogm: no playback at all (ogg splitter 0995 and 0996)
mkv: very fast playback (gabest's splitter)

Works just fine here, I've executed registry patch /restarted and then muxed mp3Pro track in AVI and / MKV, both played flawlessly (Nero digital filter is used), thx for the tip guys.

Well I installed the filter.

Opened MediaPlayer Classic (v6.4.6.5) loaded an MP3pro file encoded @ 96kbps and......... the music sounded like it was playing in a 'tin can'.

I then visited the MPC player options, filters and overrides. Located and selected the 'nero digital' filter.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it still did not work.

Anybody have any ideas?

I tried this installer and the results are as follows.Before it i must say i tried this one my two installations of WinXP Pro and the results.(Both same)

MPC 6.4.6.5 played showing laziness while seeking and the audio was playing @ rate , some times below required and some times speedy[in filter section i found nerodigital audio decoder].This was done on the avi file.some times the audio found to break -like stopping here and there.I could not try on other formats.
The condition was better than yesterday when i applied the registry patch-it didn't played atall in allthese players.(I did restart and all that......)

I think that it' s a problem of Media Player Classic because same file works well in Zoom Player. :confused:

I tested this filter with both WMP 6.4 & 9 but I' ve no problems at all... this my config:
Win2k Pro SP4, DirectX 9.0b and SB AWE 64 Standard (ISA ver).

Yes... I tested filter using 4 players and an audio-only mp3PRO file.

* Media Player Classic: after disabled internal filter file plays _very_ slow and length is wrong (4x).
* Zoom Player: length is wrong (4x).
* Windows Media Player 6.4: length is wrong (4x).
* Windows Media Player 9: no problems at all. (!!!)

Tried again playing an Mp3pro audio only file using WMP9 and there's just no 'power' in the track. It just does'nt decode the SBR segment of the encode.

Are there any other tweaks I should be doing other than installing the .exe file you posted?

I've used the following procedure in order to get mp3pro files to play correctly, Those who have problems of playing/muxing mp3pro files, may want to try it out.

1.Locate and delete\rename 2 dshow filters

L3CODECX.AX (Fraunhofer Mpeg-3 Audio Decoder)
IVIAUDIO.AX (InterVideo Audio Decoder)

Nero Audio Decoder will be used instead of these two.

2.Apply Registry Patch

Nero2KXP reg file (http://www.redzone.co.il/vad/Files/NeroXP.reg)
Nero98ME reg file (http://www.redzone.co.il/vad/Files/Nero98.reg)

3. Muxing Mp3pro in AVI/MKV/OGM

Vdubmod 1.5.4.1 for all, Streams>Stream List >Add >MP3PRO Track,
Save as *.* "Direct Stream copy"

4. Playback

Any Dshow player (besides WMP9)

Windows media player-9 using its own decoding libraries and therefore cannot be used for playing mp3pro audio tracks (regardless container used the SBR part will be ignored)

MPC users should disable build-in Audio switcher.

Attention ! For MKV, this will only work IMHO if the 'A_MS/ACM' mode is used, and most tools wil force 'A_MPEG/L3' these days, as we try to enforce our native modes whereeverpossible !

VubMod will use 'AS_MS/ACM' if the MP3 track was transmuxed from an AVI with CBR MP3, but thats it. We need to talk to Mosu about proper detection of an MP3Pro track in mkvmerge, or at least a switch for the muxing process, and then use a new matroska codec ID like 'A_MPEG/L3PRO' and map to the FourCC of the filter from the DShow filters ( where is Gabest :O ! ) ....

Hi Ramirez

I installed your XP reg file and disabled L3CODECX.AX as specified.

But when I try to play back an Mp3pro files in MediaPlayer Classic the files still don't playback correctly.... Mp3std files are ok.

However, as soon as I rename/disable the L3CODECX.AX file, my Sigma Xcard can no longer playback any Mp3std encodes at all. Including Mp3 streams that are stored within an AVI container.

So that's not very cool!

I find it very interesting that some people are able to make the filters work while others can't. Personally I don't think it can be a case of 'codec/dll clash' on this PC because I only have WinMedia Player 9, MusicMatch 8 and MPC 6.4.6.5 software players installed. And the Sigma Xcard (with JovePlayer) hardware player installed.

The rest of the PC's spec is detailed in the 'MediaPC' signature at the bottom of the post.

Any more ideas please?

I've experienced exact the same problems as you've described it; this is how I fixed it.

Keep the L3CODECX.AX filter disabled, re-register Nero audio decoder filter by executing the following command:
>Run: Regsrv32 "C:\path2Nerofilter\Neaudio.ax"

Re-Apply the registry patch,<RESTART> and try to play an audio mp3pro file again (in MPC) while playing the file in MPC check what kind of filters are in use (should be Nero digital audio Decoder)

Okay, now we've proved the filter works. What would you suggest we do to make it more user friendly?

Afterall we can't expect users to keep swithing the MPC 'audio switcher' off and on all the time. And to keep the L3CODECX.AX filter constantly disabled................ I love my Xcard too much for that!

And, as I mentioned before, I would really love the Xcard to be able to play Mp3pro files. In both an AVI container with a DivX/Xvid video stream and as a standalone audio file!

Would it help at all, if an Mp3pro file was given its own file extension, say .pro????

I'm affraid I don't know enough about how the inner workings of an O/S, so sorry if this is a daft suggestion. It just makes more sense to me to keep Mp3 separate from Mp3pro. At least for testing purposes!

I've just reactivated the L3CODECX.AX filter, rebooted the PC and MPC still plays back Mp3pro files (but obviously not Mp3std files). However the nice thing is, that my Xcard can playback Mp3std files also.... but sadly not Mp3pro.

There is no need to switch back and forth between L3CODECX and Neaudio filters, Nero audio decoder can decode both PRO/STD files.

There is another problem with latest build of MPC, when build-in "Mpeg audio Decoder" is activated the mp3pro audio once again decoded incorrectly, the only way to decode it back with Nero filter is by switching it OFF.

Hopefully Gabest will fix it somehow..

Still no go, both "Mpeg audio Decoder" / "Audio switcher" should be switched OFF :P

No problems of decoding none pro audio files with Neaudio filter here, dunno why it's isn't so on your side.

I can only get to hear Mp3std files when the 'audio switcher' is enabled. But whenever I do this MPC will not decode Mp3pro files properly... bummer!

I suppose my experiances may be useful to somebody but they sure are not to me!!

On my system nero digital audio decoder can decode both mp3 and mp3 pro files. But I have another problem: when I playback an avi with mp3pro audio in MPC (mpegaudio decoder and switcher deactivated) everything works fine but when I stop the playback and then restart it the sound stutters. I have to close MPC and restart it to playback the file correctly again. Has anyone the same problem?

If you use "REGEDIT4" reg file works on evrey Windows (both 9x/ME and 2k/XP/2k3).

I don' t think so: AFAIK DS uses 4CC codes and not file extensions to identify a stream type.

MPC decodes both mp3std and mp3pros with Nero Digital, including BSplayer. Muxed it in Matroska and it works too.
Note: Audio switcher and MPEG Audio decoder should be disabled in MPC, and MatrixMixer should be disabled if installed.

If Nero's recent track record is anything to go by. I'm sure PC user's are going to experiance 'file system clash' problems!

That said, I am looking forward to the prospect of being able to generate 2pass VBR Mpeg4 video / 6Ch AAC audio encodes, in an .Mp4 container!
