RV9 comptest

But this is a little bit lost in this huge post....

i see often people telling : "With rv9 you might guess your resolution".
I think it's not so accurate, how can I have a "trustly" comptest?
or if you prefer, how can I guess ? (yep i saw my movie, but nope i didn't write for each scene : "hhmhmhmh this scene must be very compressible!" ;) )

when I get back from my vacation I will try out DC's latest AutoRV9 fix. Version 1.3 final did not work due to its maxBitrate setting, and I also suggested some other improvements to include, that may be available in a zip from DC.

I adjust the resolution such that the bits/pixel number is reasonable, and based on experience, I also take complexity/desired quality somewhat into account. However, this experience part I guess is what the compTest would help out with.

In general, 0.13 - 0.15 bits/pixel works very well with EHQ. I have seen examples down to 0.08, but this starts to look a little blurry during high action. This means that full width encoding (704) can be used in most cases, sometimes 640 if the video is not too widescreen or longer than 90 minutes. For some highly compressible content, even anamorphic fits nicely on one CD. Certain very long high complexity encodes might need two CDs, and then full anamorphic is always recommended.

So, the comptest is a little bit useless at the moment, isn't it?
The fact is I always encode movies to one cd rip (even if they're long movies).
I had difficulties to encode minority report for example, it seems that this movie is not so "compressible".
So i had to guess, but it's difficult to me to do so. I have to choose the resolution, resizing method, and avs filter(flux and/or c3d complexity) a little bit "blindly".
It was a great advantage with Gknot to make such compressibility test with xvid or divx.
Is it impossible to make such comptest with rv9? Or should I just wait a software who is able to do such test?

i still have not gotten around to finding D-C's latest update, but with the fixes I discussed with him, RV9 comptest should work pretty well.

it's like your hardcore encoders knows the right resolution..... You don't even need any comptest sirver, your brain is one :p
I cannot know, only by viewing, if 7xx*4xx is a good one.... :!
