View Full Version : Problems using DVD2SVCD for DVDR

I downloaded the latest version of DVD2SVCD and when I installed it, I chose DVDR so it would load those templates.

Now, I'm using CCE 2.50 for encoding, and Scenarist 2.7 for authoring. It all seems to go kinda ok, except for a few details.

First of all, when Scenarist is making the vobs/images, it complains that the m2v is a different duration from the sound. However, the VOBs made, will play fine in PowerDVD and there will be no sync issue, so I take it this is just a minor detail.

The real problem is the VOBs outputted. Yeah I know it also makes an image, but I usually test the VOBs in PowerDVD and then burn those. They burn fine (using DiscJuggler which I also use for my DVD Shrink rips) but the result will NOT play in my standalone, no matter what. It will simply recognize it as a DVD, and search forever.

Since all my conversions done with DVD Shrink works without a hitch, I take it that the problem is somewhere with DVD2SVCD, or rather one of the programs it uses.

I tried using IFOEdit on the VOBs, getting VTS and correcting those, but that made the DVD player not recognize the DVD at all.

I've tried following a few guides, setting everything as they tell me to, I've tried using the default settings installed by DVD2SVCD, but neither will work. The VOBs will simply not play on my standalone (a Pioneer DV343, btw).

Has anyone experienced the same problem, and are of you able to assist me in getting those rips working?

Did you try to mount the image in daemon tools or other virtual drive and copy it to dvd? That would be useful to know.

Have a look at this thread i started 10 days ago:

Still waiting for @DVD2SVCD to take care of it ... :)
Don"t use the created VOBs!
By the way, i don"t have any problems with IfoEdit, just rename the .mpv file to .m2v and insert it to IfoEdit (DVD Authoring->Author new DVD, etc), add the extracted .ac3 also, u have to extract chapters and add subs though.

PS: Can An Admin, pls, merge the 2 threads as they have the same subject?

I don't think they are exactly the same : in the other thread re-authoring seems to solve the problem.

I have the same problem as tf : everthing seems ok the created VOBS play perfectly with PowerDVD but when burned with NERO they are not recognized by my standalone (Philips DVD 723). Re-authoring with IfoEdit results in the same problem : disc is not recognized by my player.

I use D2S 1.2.1 build 2, CCE 2.50 and Scenarist 2.7 Pro.

So it seems to be a problem with the files D2S generated. If I look at the CCE settings I see they are different than the settings DVD2SVCD suggested before DVD output support was implemented : DVD compliant and close all GOPS are not checked !?

No, re-authoring from scratch with Ifoedit only solves the problem (.m2v + .ac3 + subs + chapters ).
I tried also to re-author with the created VOBs, but the DVD is not playable on my player too.

FYI : even re-authoring with ifo-edit didn't solve my problem...

Well, I tried doing another project, and this time I renamed the .dvd image to .iso and burned it.

And what do you know, it worked!

This was, however, an ntsc title, gotta try with a pal title later on.

Anyway, thanks for all help and info!
