I was re-authoring a backup and DVDLab was the only util that would keep the AC3, Subs and original video and was easy to use. I imported the chapters into DVDlab but it would not keep them (cos it was a file not be re-muxed I think).

Therefore I now have a DVD just as I want except NO CHAPTERS. Is there any way to insert the chapters into the IFO file without re-authoring the whole DVD???

You can add chapters in your IFOs, but your VOBs must have at least as many cells as the number of chapters you want (infact chapters can only point to cells), otherwise you'll have to reauthor.
If your VOBs are OK, have a look at the end of this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58282) , I explained it there (of course, when it says delete chapters you'll add them instead ;) ). Don't follow it for the previous part, since I'm going to edit it in the next few days to improve it.
