dvd > svcd problems, picture

this is what i obtain if i try to make a svcd from a dvd, well, this kind of conversion is new to me, so probably it's only matter of some stupid setting somewhere...

i'm using dvd2avi 1.77.4 (save as old format project)
tmgpenc plus 2.5

there's no clue of this problem on every guide or faq i've read.
