VBLE Codec Crashes Windows Explorer

Greetings all,

I have been capturing with the vble codec, and really like the results so far. Unfortunately, whenever I select or even hover over my raw capture file in Windows Explorer it crashes (WinXP Pro). This did not occur when I was using huffy, so I don't think it is the filesize itself that's making it freak. I think it may have something to do with it wanting to preview the file, but I am not sure. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?

My guess would be it has something to do with which codec is used to play back your VBLE file or which codec is linked to YV12

I think you have some form of preview enabled for the explorer. As soon as you hover, XP tries to read the file, used the wrong codec and the explorer dies.

I had similar problems with playing VBLE encoded files in the Windows media player. Since I have all special options disabled in my explorer, I didn't have your problem.

Look in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

for values like vidc.vble or vidc.yv12 and look to which dll they are referring.

How did you turn the preview off in Explorer?

folder options, view,
dont select thumbnail but select something else.

Make this the default for all folders:

tools, folder options, view tab, apply to all folders button.

Of course, this doesn't solve your basic problem with VBLE playback. My guess is, that if you open the capture file is some players, they will crash also.

It could also be the option under
tools, folder options, view tab,
disable 'Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items'

Actually, the raw vble capture plays fine with a media player, so I am still wondering if I am on the wrong track. Let's hope not :)
