Saving Streaming Video

i hope this is the right place for this question....


my mom wants her bible-study online videos backed up to VHS.
ALL i need to know is how to save streaming video to my hd? ive tried letting them play and search for the temporary file from windows media player but it cant find the title. ive searched my hd for just video files and nothing comes up other than stuff ive put on there. im not sure the format that is streaming, but its nothing for quicktime or realplayer. is there a program i need or something dumb im not doing right?? thanks for you help!

you know, i read the forum rules directly before placing my post. i felt that if 35 people had read the post and had not yet replied, there were two reasons: 1)it was either in the wrong forum group or 2)had traveled far enough down the posting list list to be easily past over. in which case, posting a followup might fix the problem. reposting the question in another forum would have been in violation of rule 8 and that is exactly what i was trying to avoid.

as to my post, i did not simply type "blah, blah, blah"; i ASKED a question pertaining to my prementioned post. i felt then and still do feel that this was a worthwhile post for the duties it was intended for.

i was more worried infact of rule number 12:
5 minutes after your initial post you reply to your own post writing something like "Why is nobody helping me? I'm sure you know the answer". Once somebody replies to your thread but doesn't give you exactly the answer you've been expecting you insult them

i had patiently waited 48 hours before replying to my own post, feeling that was surely past the 5 minute, albeit rhetorical, timeframe.

please,
it would be MUCH more helpful to "newbies" to state your feelings on the rules followed by an ANSWER of SOME kind to their questions.

The thing to do would be to get a video card with an s-video TV output. Then run the s-video output to the VCR and you should be able to record what appears in the streamed video. You will have to make sure that the overlay mode is activated otherwise what goes to the VCR may be the Windows desktop instead of the streamed video. Video cards with an s-video output (no TV tuner, video input, etc) can be had inexpensively.

I'm not aware of any generally available software that works well for capturing streamed video directly to the hard disk. Sometimes for lower budget operations they don't do true streaming and if you sift through the HTML code you can find the path to the actual file. The code can get pretty cryptic though. If you can discern such a URL you can then use a piece of software called "wget" to download the file that's being pseudo streamed (feeding such a URL into a browser only fires up the media app instead of downloading it).
