I'm trying to figure out which of these front ends would be better for me. I'm mostly interested in re-encoding just the main movie and keeping only the DD 5.1 audio along with subtitles. The impression I get is that the Big 3 is best for keeping all or most of the extras, which DVD2DVD doesn't do, but I don't need. The thing I don't like about DVD2DVD is that is comes from a VCD background so it has steps that it performs that aren't necessary when backing up a DVD to DVD-R. On the other hand it looks like it is easier to use.
I'm interested in suggestions and comments on any considerations I may have omitted.

you can use the big 3 to make just movie-only backups
1. use DoItFast4U to select which streams you want demuxed
2. use ReAuthorist to calculate the bitrate
3. use DoCCE4U/BatchCCEWS to transcode
4. use a dvd authoring tool of choice to do the rest
hope this helps

I know that the big 3 can do movie-only backups. I'm trying to figure out if there is an advantage to using the big 3 compared to DVD2DVD.

Just one thing is not working correctly for me using D2D versus the Big 3 package: the subtitles on my Samsung standalone dvd player although OK with PowerDVD, have a look here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60463
So, I use D2D to create video and audio since it is very easy to use. But I create the DVD files manually (with the Subs created by DIF4U) with Scenarist.
My 2 euro cents.

Use dvd2dvd-r if you want the movie only. You can find it here www.dvd2dvd-r.de
It does the same as the big three. And I think the quality is better.:scared: sorry!!!

Last I checked dvd2dvd-r doesn't transcode but compresses.....
