Just a little help: movie won't play after cell stripped and bypassed

I'm working on BASIC. I stripped a cell from Title 2: VTS_05*. It is the 2 screens in English and French regarding Columbia TriStar Expression about opinions/commentaries by filmcrews in the movie.

Before Stripping:

After stripping it, the movie failed to start in WinDVD when "PLAY" button is clicked. WinDVD displays a blank screen and not doing anything else.

So, I did that by using the guide by 2COOL here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50245) to bypass the title. Worse thing happened afterward, WinDVD freezed. I have to force exit the application.:( :confused:

Can anyone help?? I wonder if the commands in the menu entry of this VTS might have anything to do with the problem.

Coupla things comes to mind.

1)After you convert the Post to Pre commands, you need to adjust the old Goto Line # to the new Line #. The navigation probably got lost.

2)You can also set the # of Post to 0 after the bypass to get rid of the junkie extra commands.

Good point voo_doo99, I think the problem might be in the GoTo lines originally embeded in the Post commands => was in GoTo Line#7 in Post Command line#6 and GoTo Line#8 in Post Command Line#3, now in Pre Command Line#22 and Line#19. Guess I should change it to GoTo Line#23.

I'll go and fix it now and see what happens. Thanks!:)

I assumed you applied 'Get VTS Sectors' before playing with WinDVD. Do you get an error mesage when playing with the IFOEdit player?. I could not spot anything else unusual. :( We might have to go to Plan B! :D

I did the 'Get VTS Sectors' thing after stripping the cell from the title. Anyway, I did that again, nothing needed to be corrected. I don't think modifiying command table will affect the structure anyway.

So, what's plan B?? Forget about stripping the little two screens?:(

No, of course not, would be no fun. :)

Plan B:
1.Save away your current .IFO, .BUF for later if you want
2.Brought back copy of the original .IFO, .BUF that you SAVED!
3.Open it in IFOEdit, change [Cell 2] VobID/CellID to 1/1, that is pointing to that of [Cell1]
4.Do 'Get VTS Sectors', test playing on WinDVD

Worth a try, good learning exercise :cool:
Can it be tested with the IFOEdit player? Some error message there may help.

And there is a Plan C [who you gonna call :cool: :cool:] too!

Anyway, I tried both, DVD played but it showed the screens I don't want. It's like I didn't change anything.

I go ahead and do the bypass command table modification without stripping cell 1 and see what happens. And u know what, it works. The two screens are now bypassed. But why it didn't work if I stripped cell 1 and did the bypass command table modification??:confused:

Plan B should look like quoted above. The fact that the DVD play meant navigation was restored. The fact that it showed no change, I suspected that you brought back the unstripped .VOB. I meant to use the existing stripped .VOB and fudge with the .IFO to avoid break in navigation.

Btw, how you did the stripping, seeing that they share the same Vob-ID?. The problem with stripping, I think somehow the .IFO was not corrected causing navigation hicup.

I hope you feel that this is a good learning project to pick up knowledge on the DVD backup process. Its very common problem, not hard to fix. Absolutely no need to spend money for a tool just for this. If you feel frustrated, there are other plans of attack that will work. One is applying @2COOL blanking technique to the Title 2 PGC_1. The other is to go thru the VMG PGC and change all references of Title 2 to Title 1.

The problem is that after I stripped cell/chapter 1, the movie won't play. Even I did the bypass it still not playing. It will only play as original or if I do the bypass without stripping.

I didn't see anything in your commands on accessing Chapter 2 directly so this should've worked. If having only a single chapter is giving you problems, you could've set both the Cells as below.

Ah! Maybe that's the problem. I used the single blank VOB from MackemX's guide website. I thought yours and his should be identical. :eek: Let me download yours and do a test and c what happens.
I didn't see anything in your commands on accessing Chapter 2 directly so this should've worked. If having only a single chapter is giving you problems, you could've set both the Cells as below and then used the guide.

I've just downloaded and extracted the zip file from your guide. Oh ya, now I c. You have so many version of blank vob's. I think the one I get from MackemX is the one blank cell blank vob. But I don't know why it is different than yours.

I was just pointing out that your time could be alot less for the 1 second blank VOB you used. My blank VOB is at a fraction of a second. In your case, if the guide was performed correctly with one Program and one Cell, it should've worked.

Another thing is even though the DVD works now, I don't know why it didn't work without editing the command table in VIDEO_TS.IFO. I mean why it works when I bypass the title by editing the command table for VTS_PGC_1 WITHOUT stripping (blanking out) cell 1 but not works if cell 1 is stripped? Can somebody explain?

Sorry for the confusion. :p

Actually they r all the same one. I only working on one title set, VTS_05*, which has two cells/chapters sharing the same one PGC => VTS_PGC_1. All the different versions of the same VTS_PGC_1 posted earlier were how they looked b4 and after stripped using different methods. ;)

2COOL, the cell command is in PGC_Menu_3 of VIDEO_TS.IFO originally. I didn't do anything to the command table of the PGC_Menu except changing its Post Command Line#10 from "(JumpTT) Jump to Title: 2" to "(JumpTT) Jump to Title: 1". You see what I meant?? Why the author put the cell command there in the first place?

Any comments?? Btw, I also cleaned up the post commands. I finally got a chance to look over Basic Region 1 again. After I had ripped all files with DVD Decrypter, I went and got VTS Sectors. I had more than a few corrections done. I then performed the same edit that you have done in RED above after changing number of Pre Commands and had no problems on bypassing Title 2.

Now I went and replaced the VTS_05_1.VOB with a blank clip, stripped all streams, and corrected the VOBU units. I also kept the original Commands intact, without performing the bypassing technique. The results were Title 2 was hanging but didn't stop play. I found out the problem.

This command was giving me the problem.

Since our blank VOB doesn't have any subtitle streams anymore, it was reading a different value other than 64 which was set at Pre CommandS #12 AND 13. This caused Post Command #3 to be false since GPreg<2> is not equal to 1 now and the next jump command is at Post Command #7. Since this played Title 1 of the titleset, it just kept on going in a loop by jumping back to Pre Command #1. That explains why my DVD never stopped because it was caught in an endless loop.

The easy fix here in this PGC Command Table to prevent Post Command #7 from executing was to change Post Command #6 to jump to Post Command #8.

or you can edit Post Command #7 to be the same as #8.

With the above said, this IS your answer to your big question. Does it makes sense to you? If you want to know what GPReg<2> was being set at with streams stripped, it was a value of 127. I found this out by inserting an illegal command after Post Command #1 and monitored the GPregs.

Yup, I too did the get VTS Sectors after ripping and got the same corrections. And I only had problems after blanking out Title 2. Then I did the bypass and got WinDVD freeze up. :p

It's so cool that u understand all these command terms. I have no clue what r GPreg<2>, mov, SPreg, (SPSTN), (cmp-val), etc. I would probably know what was wrong if I can read these codes and didn't mistaken "(JumpVTS_TT) Jump to Title: 1" as "(JumpTT) Jump to Title: 1". :)

I guess I need a book about DVD command table in order to be a master like u. :D
