View Full Version : DivX playback really slow??

Hi all,
I have had to rebuild my machine due to hard drive failure.
When I now try to play back certain discs encoded using DivX, they play back really slowly - like slow motion.
AVI Codec says I need DivX 5 to play it back. However, I have downloaded the latest version and it still doesn't play the correct speed. I'm using Media Player 9.
Any help appreciated.
Apologies if this is the wrong forum - I tried to pick the one best suited.
Cheers,
Paul.

Did you try turning off auto postprocessing and setting postprocessing to minimum?
Btw, what is your machine? Pentium? AMD? Videocard?

Is that for encoding or playback? The files are already encoded - I didn't do these ones myself. But they used to work fine before my PC was reformatted :-(
My processor is an AMD 1200 Duron with 384mb ram, 16mg ATI All In Wonder.
Strange how they have suddenly stopped working I thought?
I'm sure its a codec issue somewhere as AVI Codec (the program which tells you whether your machine is compatable with a file or not), says that I don't have the correct codec installed. All it says is that divX 5 is needed. I installed the latest version of DIVx though.
Interestingly enough, the DivX player will play at full speed, but MP9 won't.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Paul.

WMP9 is crap IMO. Use mplayer2 which you already have, Media Player Classic or zoom player. Postprocessing is for playback, but it will reduce performance. AVI Codec is not always accurate as far as determining installed codecs.

Try playing your DivX files thru' the new DivX 2.5 player.
If they still appear to be slow, go to the DivX Player - Preferences - Video - Playback Quality. And adjust the slider to the 'middle position' Apply and OK.
But you might find it helpful to remove all your DivX software, reboot and reinstall it all!

Thanks for your replies everyone.
I have tried MPlayer2 and this also plays slow. However Divx 2.5 Player plays them fine.
I think I'll just use the DivX player, and put the slowness down to 'one of those things'!!
It may be due to multiple codecs, and WMP is choosing the wrong one or something.
Thanks again for your help!
Paul.
