I accindently discovered that you can burn 4x on 2.4x +R media with an Sony DRU500a, if you make multiple copie's, you start out with an 4x -R media, the rest of the 2.4x discs will be burned @ 4x as well (approx.15 min. of burntime)
Since a week I've also got an Liteon LDW-401S and this writer is also capable of burning @4x on 2.4X media if you start out burning over image with no media inserted, and you select 4x burning.

I wóuld like to know what experiences others have with burning 4x on 2.4 media.The only thing I'm concerned about is wether this could be harmful for the burner, because the dics themselves doesn't seem to have any erratic behaviour so far (burned about 20 discs this way)

Interesting trick - don't see how it could affect the burner though unless it catches fire :scared:

Did you KProbe your discs?

Just did my first Kprobe of an 2.4 +R (ricoh)disc @4x burned.

The avq results are:
PI=5.100
PO=0.062

I'm still trying to upload the charts on my FTP server, you'll get them asap. The PI is almost flat until 50 % of the disc, after that it fluctuates between 20 and 30.

Same disk burned @ 2.4X
The avq results are:
PI=1.483
PO=0.031

Ok, you can say that the result is worse when burned @ 4x, but compared to some crappy disc's out there both results are quite nice.

Which burning software was used? Nero5.5/6.0/ImgTool/InstantCD...?

Someone has said starting with -R 4x than feed feed with DVD+R 2.4x media, burned at 4x. Such mix of - and + media did not cause the burner fail?

I use Nero 5.5.10.50 for burning. Changing the media type(-/+) during the burn proces of multiple copies didn't affect the latter disc's (+).

I once tried the sequence the other way around, but nero than quote's after inserting a -R disc "can only burn this disc at .. speed." Also no coaster, it just changes the writing speed.
