5.1: QPel and BiDi encoding slowdown?

I've done some encoder speed tests with DivX 5.1 and had some surprising speed slowdowns on my machine using BiDi+QPel. (yes, using standard mode.) Can someone check my results? Maybe they have partially dropped AMD 3DNow! support, since Athlon XP and most Intel can use SSE instead? My Athlon 1.4G T-Bird is the last one without SSE.

Settings: Source is 15.64s MJPEG PAL video, no audio, compressed with mostly default settings for two-pass 900KBit. No Psy mode. 5.05 uses "slowest" mode, 5.1 uses "standard" mode. Feedback window disabled.

DivX 5.1:
Base:........ 12.0fps
BiDi:......... 8.1fps +47%
QPel:......... 4.8fps +150%
GMC:......... 10.7fps +12%
GMC+QPel+BiDi: 2.66fps +349%

DivX 5.05:
Base:........ 10.1fps
BiDi:......... 8.7fps +17%
QPel:......... 6.2fps +64%
GMC:.......... 8.9fps +14%
GMC+QPel+BiDi: 3.95fps +155%

The Full-Pro package GMC+QPel+BiDi used to be 2.5x slower than simple, and is now 4.5x slower. Thats really noticeable, and makes me using 5.05, simply because its 4-5 hours faster on a 90min film.

I sick of seeing people complain about the speed of DivX 5.1. If you don't like encoding at higher quality, go back to 5.05. If like me you want the better quality of 5.1, you'll put up with slow encoding speeds. The Bi-Dec code has changed, which probably made it slower. Clearly the QPel code has changed as well, but the GMC code hasn't (or at least not by much).

I thought, the only real improvements beside bug fixes were in Psy code and in the new Slow & Slowest mode. And I didnt see any noticeable quality improvements, at least none that are worth 4-5 hours of extra encoding time.
Is this 'new' BiDi+QPel code really worth 50% longer encoding times?
(and in reality its even worse: A 5.05 with working mvinfo would be even faster...)
