How to change behaviour on pressing 'next button' ?

Hi all,

I'm certainly no specialist in IFO/VOB editing, but more a 'one click guy', but this time I need your help. I've been trying Adobe Encore lately to author some VHS material to DVD. Unfortunately there is this feature/bug in Encore that really annoys me: Every title on the DVD is a 'timeline'. Timelines can have multiple chapters. Timelines can be linked to each other by means of setting an 'end action'. However, when the final chapter of a timeline is playing, and the user presses the 'next button', I'd expect the DVD to execute the end action, which is starting the next title/timeline. Unfortunately this does not work. The player does not respond to the 'next button' when playing the final chapter in a title.

So here's my question: Is there a way that I could repair this bug by editing a vob-file or ifo-file ? I don't know how a player knows what to do when a 'next button' is pressed. I hope you can help me out on this.

I understand from your post that your timelines are actually single-PGC titles.
You cannot use that "next button" trick, since the postcommands are in the PGC command table, but when you push next on your remote, the player doesn't go to the end of that chapter (and so to the end of the PGC), but it tries to find the following chapter, which in your case doesn't exist.
I suggest you to create a dummy chapter adding a dummy vob file at the end of the vob that contain your timeline using VOBEdit.
You can find the dummy vob in this zip file (macro.zip (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/macro/macro.zip)) by MackemX.
Of course to do this trick for every "timeline" you should have the VOBs separated for each of them.
Follow this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=349432#post349432) to adjust the structure of your movie (otherwise, if you have an authoring program, it will be easier).
In my guide I could only navigate through titles with the remote, but if this works for you, I'll edit it to add this "next button" trick ;)

You got my problem, but the solution you provide is much more complicated than I hoped (although as complicated as I feared :eek: ). (Sorry, but I told I was more of a 'one click guy.)
I think I can use the essence of your 'trick' by simply adding a dummy chapter at the last i-frame of my 'timeline'/pgc. Although it may not be perfect, but it makes my dvd behave as intended.

Thats the way, a lot of releases have a chapter placed a few ms before the end of a PGC for that very reason!

Since I'm still at the authoring stage (and in this case I'm using Adobe Encore), I can easily add a chapter point from the authoring application. Just set the 'cursor' at the end of the 'timeline' and choose 'add chapter point'. Encore then places a chapter point at the nearest I-Frame.
