a question about ripping dvd

i was trying to rip a dvd. i got the original movie decrypted and got the *.ifo and 8 *.vob files with a text document called stream information.
then i tried with the dvdx to encode it for several times. i just could not get the correct avi file. there is really bad sound with no pictures.
actually i did rip several dvds before, and i got them done pretty well although i do not really understand those choices. i just did what an article told me to do. that is why i cannot solve the problem this time.
could anybody help me?

I found an article about ripping dvd on this forum, I just followed what it taght me. I do not really understand those items I checked or picked. So, I can only picture the screen .

so, finally i just encode it, that is all.
i have no idea why this time, i got no pictures and sounds come out correctly. :(

i am reading through the divx guide and got some idea where i might be wrong when copied the dvd. here,
i think the first time, i did not have ASPI checked. then i checked that box and tried again, it said: "aspi not available. dvdx won't be able to unlock dvd drive and to read file bigger than 2gb. check for aspi driver update at...."
then i updated the aspi server and tried again, this time, it said: " auth.dll: can't authenticate drive. disk may be not locked."
i really have no idea what they mean and what i need to do to fix the problem?
