Guys,
I serached all the forums regarding the problem and did not find the answer. My video is unpleasently jerky while playing on SVCD/DVD player (JVS-A30).
It's not jerky though while playing on the PC with Cyberlink PowerDVD.
I'm using Dvd2svcd ver. 1.2.1 build 2, CCE 2.50, Windows XP Pro, AMD Athlon 1.2 Ggz, 384 Mb ram, ND-1300 dvd/cd witer, Nero 6.
The file is AVI 512 x 304, DivX 5.0, video bitrate 947 kbs, audio MP3, bitrate 97 kbs (2x48) VBR, 44100.
I tried linear and non-linerar quantizer, lowered max bitrate to 1,900., zigzag checked and unchecked, restrict AutoI-frame, nothing works.
Please help!
Alex

Sorry, I forgot to say that this is 25.00 fps PAL and I play it on NTSC stan-alone DVD player. It's not my first PAL movie, however I did not have any problem before.

i don't know your player (JVS-A30)
but some models don't like low bitrates.
for test:
try encode a little sample from the same source
with min600 and max2500 and
(if needed)the audio with 128 or 160 bitrate!

Hi, Jorel.
Thanks for your advice.
JVC TH-A30 is a home theater. I checked DVDrhelp.com - nobody had any problem with anything on this player.
Anyway, I raised the minimum video bitrate to 600 and then to 900 with audio bitrate of 128 and it did not change anything. Moreover, I tried to encode the short sample with CBR and it did not hel either. Nero SVCD encoder though did not have this problem at least on the sample I tried, however the quality is no good and it does not allow fast forward.
Any other idea?

try lowering the max bitrate for video and upping the audio bitrate to at least 192...i know it sounds weird, but it has been known to help in some cases.

Another suggestion might be to try and do a re-burn of the CD. Its happened to me about 2 or 3 times that the quality of my newly created CD was so poor that my DVD simply could not read it fast enough. This could explain why your cd-drive in your computer can read the CD but not your DVD player.
I then tried to measure the CD for C1/C2 errors - and to my surprise there were over 250.000 C1 errors :|
So I just tried to burn the CD again to a new CD, and then it worked perfect.

Thanks, I tried it, nothing changed. I actually reduced max video bitrate to 2400 and increased min to 600, also increased audio bitrate to 192 then to 256 and it did not help.
Maybe this information will help. I tried TMPGEnc, it gives exactly the same result, however during the processing it shows the video and it looks like it process it in exactly the pieces, which I can see later on playing the SVCD.
Regarding the errors on CD - I burned it probably 20-25 times already on different CDs, so I don't think this is an issue here, however thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

Try i-author for muxing and image creation, then cdmage for image conversion. Lemme know if it works, i will tell you then why it did. Cause i am not sure, but the good thing is you don't have to redo the whole movie, just push the recover button and change to i-author after that (if you still have all the files that is), then start.

Thanks, I'll try this weekend. One question though. Why do I need to convert image with CDmage? I never used either I-author or CDmage, so it might be a stupid question but nevertheless...

Does your TV support PAL playback? If so, set your player to "PAL" or "auto" and see if it looks better.

Well, I-Author creates .cif-images, and if you don't use EasyCD or something like that, you won't be able to burn or mount them (with Daemon Tools for example). So what cdmage basically does, it loads the .cif-image and converts it to .bin/.cue.
And I-Author produces best compability imho, even though it's old. And it's worth a shot, since it plays fine on your comp.

Thanks, Vic. While I liked it (I-Author), it did not fix the problem.
If anybody has any ideas I would really appreciate it. I found another movie in my collection, whic I burnt one of my firts and it has the same problem, so it looks like I have to resolve it somehow.
