Quote from the Instantcopy Official Board:
There will not be a free upgrade from InstantCopy 7 to InstantCopy 8. I don't have any exact details on whether or not there will be any upgrade price available

I have Instantcopy 7. I still plan on getting Instantcopy 8 as soon as it comes out.

What a bad news for those expecting a free upgrade. Although I also own IC 7, I don't really expect Pinnacle will provide free upgrade. So, it's not a big dissapointment for me.
I guess I know Pinnacle realizes IC 8 will sell and IC 7 already sold. They might come up will some kind of free patch later (maybe 7.21 or something) to make the IC 7 owners feel better. The patch will never as good as IC 8.

Maybe half price since IC7 only half works.

I bought Instantcopy 7 and I expect a free upgrade to version 8.
I hope it is from Pinnacle but that is up to them.
I'm not rebuying basically a corrected version of what I already have.

not to be awkward but what doesn't work with IC7?

Undersized output.
It is clear as day, they abandoned support for IC7 and put the fix in for IC8.

I thought sizing would be one of the answers as I know sizing was a major issue for most but it did improve with the updates and if I'm right in thinking that Pinnacle do not still support the title removal feature then this makes the sizing issue a little different
a lot of undersizing is caused by the 2.35:1 movies but if you do a full 1:1 backup of one of these movies then the undersizing is compensated by the menu/extras. Removing titles reduced the compensating extras size so the undersizing was greater and even more so for movie only projects
Obviously some discs will have no extras etc to compensate the undersizing but it's in the minority and seeing as Pinnacle have always stated they will not support the copying of copyrighted material then there are very few DVD's you can complain to them about
the same goes for removing titles with IC7 and failure when playing back on a standalone. It isn't advertised to do that, it's a hack so it's user inflicted if it does not playback on your standalone and nothing to do with Pinnacle
it would be nice if they did update version 7 to work the same way as IC8 regarding sizing to make it easier to get the target size, maybe even add a few more tweaks and also make IC7 users happy. Who knows?

Why don't you guys just use DvdShrink?? I abandoned InstantCopy its too slow and I don't really see the benefit in using it over DvdShrink

I wouldn't want it even if it was free.
I still see claims of undersizing when backing up movie only.
Why do people make excuses for this undersizing problem when none of the competition have this problem.

it would be nice to see these claims and excuses. I know why IC wasn't accurate with it's predictions and I accept it as fact not as an excuse
is this one of the claims from this thread HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59947)?

No, sadly it's as bad as it ever was!
Typical .pdi file sizes I've been getting are 4.12 - 4.17 GB. Pathetic huh?
Ah well, something for my buddy TheMadGuy to work on for the next version of ICHSE! :D
and after I told him a few reg settings to change which could probably be further tweaked if need be

Well Mackem's little tweaks definately work for sure, after 3 movies done with them the lowest size .pdi file I've got so far is 4.27GB (Narc - Movie only)
you see how easily it is to change someone opinion when you show them how? The two DVD's (movie only) that I'd had serious undersizing issues with IC7 due to 2.35:1 ratios both came out fine with IC8 so I can't complain about undersizing
maybe others are experiencing sizing difficulties but wasn't that the same with IC7 where others complained of difficulties yet others enjoyed success?
I have also tweaked the reg settings and now get even closer to 4.37Gb and in time I will share that information but until it's actually been shipped and if people do actually start complaining about undersizing I'm saying zip!. Maybe there still is a major undersizing issue though I'm yet to see it as all I have seen regarding sizing is an improvement but that still doesn't mean it's still there :(
but if other people's claims are going to stop you from trying it then so be it but it sure as hell wouldn't stop me from trying it if it was for free and that goes for any program!
@atreides93, you could say the same thing and ask why not use DVD2One or CloneDVD etc?. It's down to personal choice and not everyone is going to agree on using the same tool :(
as for it being slow, the speed option in IC8 is probably the same speed as DVDShrink now and if the title removal works then that leaves more space for the stuff you keep resulting in better quality also, so it makes it attractive to those who not only want speed but also want minimum fuss when removing the crap

Well, if Pinnacyle still supported IC7 and fixed the sizing issue, I wouldn't care if they released IC8,9,10 every other week.
The fact they left a very good but broken product on the table, or should I say, fixed it and slapped on a shiny new number is something I can't ignore and they will never see a dime of my money for any product (except if you see me talking about IC8 in this forum, then you can be sure I paid full ;) price for it).
A word of advice for all software companies, don't screw your paying customers. Fool me once, your sorry, Fool me twice...

Mr DVDShrink, you are our only hope! The IC empire is mobilizing their 8th force desiring to take command of the backup galaxy. If you could just tweak your transcoding engine to boost up the quality energy level for large-size long-play MPEG2 video, the invading force will self-implode on their own aggressive movement. And me will never think IC again. :D

Any estimate when the final release version of IC 8 will arrive I've already ordered the upgrade.
