avi encoding

Hi everyone

With help from everyone here, I can now do a good DivX (5.1) encode. Thanks to everyone for their help :)

The next thing I want to do is take .avi file that my digital camera makes and compress then using DivX. Using VirtualDub I can do a 1-pass encode, but I don't know how to set up a 2-pass. Also, the 1-pass encode only compresses the video by 50%, but I guess that's just the DivX settings i'm using. Any help with the 2-pass bit?

Commando,

In vdubmod, first do a n-pass, first pass and write out the log file. Queue the job (don't run it interactively). Then repeat the process except choose n-pass and queue that job.

Start the first job in the job control and sit back and relax for awhile. Job control will perform the first and second pass for you.

Note: Multiple passes ALWAYs uses the original source avi file, regardless of which pass you're on. Do not use the output from the previous pass. Always go back to the original material.

Soulhunter, I couldn't find one that would help in this case, but if you know one that would help a n3wb1e to vdub then i'd appreciate a link! Otherwise i'll muddle on with Rozemab's directions :)

No, you can stay with Rozemab's directions... ;)

Its only the thing that multipass encoding with DivX is nearly the same as with the old 2Pass mode...

Use the guides for 2pass mode, but use Nth-pass instead of 2Pass...
