View Full Version : anybody used svcd at low bitrate?

Hello,
just for the hell of it, I encoded a 90 minute movie onto a single
svcd, 700MB cdr-w. The results were surprising good.
I used 2-pass vbr, audio=112 J/s, br-max=2670, avg=1070, min=850
with padding.

I think it's out of the svcd standard, but it worked fine on my
dvd player.
regards,
Dave

how did you make 90 mins fit with the max bitrate so high?

i'm currently experimenting with a 125 min movie on 2 svcds, and the average bitrate is about 1100kbps, which only just fits.

also, how's the sound? i'm using 192kbps and it still sounds a bit scritchy (basic stereo, not joint.)

What matrix are ye using?

Hello -
regarding MAX bitrate, here's what I've been doing (with good results) combined audio + sound = 2744.
For example video 2520, audio 224, OR video 2584 audio 160,
OR video 2632 audio 112.

Audio at 112 using Toolame and joint stereo (JS) sounds good.
Much better than tmpgenc built-in.

When you use 2-pass vbr, it's the AVG bitrate that makes the difference. That's how I got 90 minutes onto one 80min cdrw.
brmax=2632
avg=1090
min=850

audio=112.

Regarding the minimum of 850 - I set it that way because any lower
causes my dvd player to stutter.
Try it - works good.

I made a couple of movies for my son using CVD resolution and an average bitrate of 850kbps. Min 500 max 2300. I was surprised that they still looked better than vcd. Audio was toolame at 128kbps.
