The best solution for DV quality

I use a Sony miniDV camcorder (TRV8E) for making my home videos.
As I want to archive my edited videos in 16x9 format I have my camcorder configured for 16x9 shooting.
However, as I know that the camcorder does not capture a real 16x9 image, I wonder what is the best solution:
1- Work in 16x9 format and let the camcorder "cut" the image, or
2- work in 4x3 format and use Avisynth to crop vertically from 576 (PAL) to 432 and then resize to 576.

I'd like to ear from your experience.

If you're just going to crop it away anyway (have no intention of keeping 4:3 content), just film in fake 16x9 mode. There is actually a small quality increase in doing so as well; check out Ben Syverson's (I don't think that's right!) site; he has done a few comparisons of different 16x9 shooting methods. There might be a sticky at the top to it, and I KNOW there's a link here in the forum. Google's always good too.

I think i already saw a thread about this, and i may remember that it was better to film to 4:3 (where you record full lines) and then crop top/bottom to have 16:9. Most of the camcorders do 16:9 the wrong way, so it may be better to crop after... im getting confused :confused:

And when capturing a 16:9 source, it strech to 4:3, and im not sure about the good resize settings either.. :mad:
