I'm trying to capture video to Divx5 using VirtualDub but I can't seem to get audio to either play in the preview or capture. Can someone enlighten me on how to do this?

A couple more questions: Is it possible to schedule capture with VirtualDub? What are good Divx5.1 settings for realtime capture of TV?

Thanks,
Ric

Make sure your Windows audio settings (under "recording") are switched from Mic-in to Line-in. That's usually the reason for no audio.

As for your question on realtime encoding, I'll refer you to the Capture FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32575).

Where do I set the Windows audio setting? When I open the audio mixer for the nForce driver, I have 2 options for input: record and digital input. The ATI TVWonder sound is plugged into the CD input of the sound/motherboard. CD Audio is selected for Digitized Input (which means it gets access to the DSP) and whether I choose Stereo Mix or CD Audio for the Record input, I still get no sound. Either of these should work.

I think there's something peculiar about the ATI TV card, in that it has to be told to output audio. I'm not sure how to do this in Virtual Dub and several other programs I've tried, like Virtual VCR. Other programs don't seem to have this problem. I use Intervideo WinDVR for TV viewing and capture, and it works alright. But it doesn't support third party codecs so Mpeg 1/2 are the only options.

Thanks,
Ric
